When I’m in this state…bitchy and moody, crampy and achy and generally feel icky, do you, as men, want to know why? Or isn’t it enough to say “I don’t feel well”? I always feel awkward, like some teevee cliche, saying “it’s a girl thing,” but I don’t know how else to make you shut up about “what’s wrong, what’s wrong what’s wrong” \*\*

If a woman I know is unusually reserved (“I’m so ugly”) or snippy I usually just write it off to that time of the month unless there’s something else going on I’m aware of. There’s no explanation needed and frankly it’s really nobody’s business but your own. If you feel compelled to share, that’s fine too.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with ‘I don’t feel well’. Ain’t it the truth?

**Nocturne** , wow. I don’t know what to say (or maybe I just don’t know where to start), but I can somewhat sympathize…

My mother was (and still kind of is) of the mindset that all gynos are really just lecherous old men (in her day, most doctors, in any field, _were_ men) who got medical degrees just to be able to enact their dirty little fantasies on women in stirrups. So I did not get regular paps (didn’t get ANY paps until my senior year in college, when my sister volunteered to pay for it), and she snatched me away from a doctor she once liked and respected because when I turned 17 he started bugging her to get me to a GYN.

So I know how these things can be. Is there any possibility that a doctor she trusts could help her see the situation in a different light? Or that you could just get knocked up and say, “Hmmm… shame I never got on The Pill, huh, Ma?” (You know I’m kidding with that last comment, right?)

As for telling the boys… I’ve never been one to keep these things a secret, because… well… why should they be? However, I still found myself shocked and mildly disturbed when I was asked by a 14-year-old boy, on a particularly cranky day, if I was having PMS! I guess I can’t have it both ways…

And **irishgirl** … all I can say is Good Luck!

**auntie em** –I know what you mean about that “other time,” when my brain and my ovaries battle for possession of my body. Although I’m thankful that my brain is leading the series. This time is also when my friends seem to always schedule “girls’ night out.”

Hanging out with my male friends can also be painful. Granted, most of them are dorking engineering students, but thanks to the wonders of **OvuVision** , even the most socially awkward ones are transformed into heavenly hunks of manly flesh. It’s good for me that as a rule, they’re too “nice” to ever take advantage of my momentary weaknesses.🆒

OvuVision, I love it.

Jools, you are most definatly not alone, my boyfriend thinks he is the luckiest man alive around that time. Unfortuantly last month he was on medication around that time that um, made him not so much “in the mood”. I almost got to the point of threatening him with his life unless he GOT IN THE MOOD. I was practically climbing the walls.

Tomcat,
I agree with you about the weed thing. It really does help. The only downside is I turn into the human garbage disposal around that time anyway, couple that with the weed and it takes iron chains on the fridge to keep me from eating it’s entire contents. Then I feel like ass. A fat one at that.

Speaking for myself as a guy who’s been married twice, all I can do is paraphrase the Dell computer dood:

“Oh, we know.”

I don’t think most men are as obtuse as others have said. It would be nice to have the ladies confirm our suspicions, though. That way, we’ll know that _this, too, shall pass._

Our worst fear is that it’s _not_ PMS–because that means it might be something worse, or permanent.

Are you kidding? This is what a guy feels like **all the time**. Our bodies are constantly producing sperm, and God forbid we should let one go to waste or anything.

Although it’s more like The Perpetual State of “Come to Papa, Li’l Darlin”.

Hmm. I don’t get horny when I ovulate. But then, I never get horny at all, thanks to the wonders of SSRI antidepressants.

Right now here is what I’m going through:

Ovulation WITH bleeding and clots. WTF??

I agree with **Punoqllads** , you are one of the (apparently few) females who understand what it’s like to be male. I wish I was joking.

I think there’s a fundamental right for everyone, male or female, to be bitchy from time to time. I’ve never correlated mood and physiology, or made ‘that time of month’ comments. However, if I was told, it would make some difference in how I reacted to said mood. It’d also be a demonstration of trust.

If one of your male friends was acting grumpy and moving around differently, how would your perception and actions change if he did or didn’t inform you that he had twisted testicles or prostate problems or some other male-only unpleasantness?
Is anyone else mad that they changed the search engine so that it is no longer possible to search for “TMI”? Some of the greatest threads can only be grouped using that text…

All I have to say is:

Ahhh, to be male.
