Bayliss found her?
Back in 68, Dad got a phone call from a woman, who begged him to help her sone get home.
During the 1968 Democratic Convention.
With all that that implies.
Dad was an ex-prizefighter.
He told the family to stay indoors, don’t go out, & he wuill see them soon.
He found the kid.
And came home.
With a black eye.
And carrying a Chicago Police Department-issue nightstick.
He never explained how he got it.
I have a scar over my left eye just under my eyebrow from a Chicago Police Issued nightstick in Lincoln Park August 27th 1968…
I don’t doubt it.
Nor did I praise the cops.
And Dad was not a cop.
Years ago I was doing my Christmas shopping in downtown Chicago. A group of us swapped gifts on Christmas Eve, and we distributed lists of things we wanted. So I was going from store to store with my lists, and at one of my first stops I bought a season set of DVDs. Apparently it had some sort of theft detection tag inside it, but buried inside so deep that the magnetic device which was supposed to deactivate it failed to do so. When I was leaving the store the alarm went off, and I had to show my receipt to prove I wasn’t stealing it.
And during the rest of my shopping expedition, every time I left a store the alarm went off, and I had to explain about the hidden tag and prove I had paid for all my purchases.
