I have nothing to offer here **taxi**. Unfortunately, the clothing gay gene seems to be recessive with me. Except, I know a f-_aaaaaa_-bu- **lous** men’s shirt when I see it. Anything else, I have no idea. Except men’s suits. I have a large thing for men’s suits. I lurve suits. And shirts. And cool ties. I fear I may soon face a flogging. Joe Dawg became right impatient with me while I was getting His Majesty’s din-din. Apparently I was not able to pop the top and mash up His Highness’s Mighty Dog Gourmet Dinner[sup]TM[/sup] in a manner in which His Highness deemed prompt. He snorted and woofed as if to say, "Servant! We are hungry and you are most slow in preparing our dinner. We shall have the royal flogger flog you in the courtyard right away! :eek: ---

Update, since you are all waiting impatiently for news: Magic has met the herd, and he is not impressed. I think he’s not impressed beccause they are not impressed - he’s sitting under the desk growling while they walk around with a “what’s your problem?” attitude. He’s done a bit of hissing and spitting, which they have ignored. So I guess things aren’t going badly. No word on the grandbaby - when I called today I got voicemail, so I will try again tomorrow. **Taters** , I’m glad to hear MIL is improving. **Kai** , are you better yet? Off to referee… ---

**WOOHOO!** Made it through another week. Wasn’t as quiet today as I’d hoped, but that’s okay. After Christmas things will slow down considerably and for several months I might only take 20 calls in a day – as compared to the 50-100 I normally take. (Calls can mean orders, technical support, parts lookups on computer or diving into ginormous ancient tomes and cross-referencing confusing model numbers with variation numbers and superceded part numbers and all kinds of fun stuff, or just general questions, end-users being redirected to local dealers, or dealers looking for back orders, or a variety of other stuff) No idea what I’m going to make for dinner tonight though. Haven’t planned that far ahead. 😉 ---

Good news from my friend - Grandbaby is much better. They want to see her again in the morning just to make sure her fever is gone, but she is eating and laughing and playing. **Scarie** , I guess Ophelia can take a break now. Magic is still mfffft and pffffft at all the cats. It is funny in a sad way because he is way smaller than any of them and if he keeps swatting he’s gonna get his butt beat. So far that hasn’t happened. Have a good weekend, everyone! ---

Glad to hear MIL is doing better, **Taters**. Seems like a good sign that she wants to go home and not to your house, even if it’s less convenient for you. Sorry about the Grumpuses, **Taters**. I’ll be thinking about you and your family. I think dealing with aging parents is one of the biggest challenges of being a grownup. I’m grateful that my Mom is in really good health, but that could change at any moment, which scares the heck out of me. Hope everyone is on the mend. Your cat story made me laugh out loud, **SCL**. So _that’s_ what I did wrong, **Alistair**. I was squinting, but not tilting my head… 😃 Oh, and I have just one word for you **swampy** : billing. (Doesn’t that make you all thankful for mopheads and rubber thingies?) Yay on the raise, **LiLi**! Wish I could get me one of those. Maybe next year. (Sometimes working for state government sucks…) I survived my workday, which included the disappointment of finding out that my perfect file was, unfortunately not. (I knew you would want to know.) Fortunately, despite everyone’s best effort to distract me, the file was recreated AND verified by the time I left work. I have to remove some of the junk in it and change some dates, but after that there’s just little stuff left. So, no cartwheels till Monday, but I might be close. Dinner was pizza and cookies. I suppose I should find something semi-fresh to go with that, but I’m not very motivated right now. How about hot chocolate? With rum. Excellent idea. Thank you. Ah! Finally home. The commute home only took an hour today. Ten years ago this same commute was 20 minutes. How very sad. Glad to hear grandbaby is on the mend. It’s always so scary when little ones are sick like that. Both of my kids had pneumonia as babies, more than once. It’s frightening when their fevers spike so high and they’re listless. I’m not feeling so hot. I started feeling pretty crappy list night; I even urped a little. Today I’ve had a “stabby” headache and my tummy is not playing nicely with me. I’ll live, I just hate feeling crappy. **taxi,** if your mother is short, I wouldn’t recommend an outfit like that. It will only make her look shorter. I learned this on “What Not to Wear”. No, I obviously wasn’t on that show (though someone can recommend me), but I end up watching it if there’s nothing else on. I suppose in awhile I’ll have to make some dinner. Oh! A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCD! ---

Congrats on a decent tenant, **Rosie**! I know that is a load off of your mind. Having dad’s contact info helps, too. 🙂 Now things begin to look more hopeful. Magic is on a pillow on the desk, and is not hissing constantly at the others. So far, only Dax has hissed back - the others are just curious. Since Dax is the second youngest, I can cut her a bit of slack - I’ve been fostering kittens since the others were babies. Yogi just looks at me with that “I can’t believe you had another litter - at _your_ age” expression. I think this is going to work. And **DB** , you are correct. He’s going to have to get an ass whuppin’ or two to establish his place in the pecking order. I am very pleased that it hasn’t happened yet - they are cutting him a great deal of slack. My friend is scheduled to fly home tomorrow, barring any relapse with Grandbaby. I will make sure she knows that kind strangers (who are my friends) were praying for Grandbaby. And since she is a cat person, too, I know she will get a big kick out of the idea of beautiful Ophelia pedaling the vibe machine, **Scarie**. I am grateful for the support you all have given me, and Grandbaby. ---

_Grr…_ I have to say this: If you are going to work at the counter in the food service industry – hell, in _any_ service industry where you will be regularly dealing with customers – it would be a good idea to make sure that not only is your English at least comprehensible, but your _comprehension_ is at least as good as well. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you just have to be able to get your point across sufficiently and be able to understand what the customer wants of you. It really isn’t a lot to ask. I don’t mean to come off as racist, but in a hugely popular establishment in an English-speaking country where most of your clientele are at the very least going to speak English, it kind of comes with the territory that you should too. To whit: We couldn’t decide what to have for dinner tonight so we decided I’d just walk over to Timmy’s and get some coffee, a sandwich for the wifey and some Chili for me. Theirs is the 90-pound weakling of the chili world, but I can console myself with the fact that I’ll be making a nice big pot of home-made slow-cooked crock pot chili next week. I walk over, in, and up to the counter. The following conversation ensues: Me: I’ll have a large triple-triple… Him: [tap tap tap] Me: …a large steeped tea, triple-triple with milk… Him: [tap tap tap] Me: …a chicken salad wrap on white, extra mayo… Him: [tap tap tap] White or whole wheat? Me: …uh … white. A white _wrap_. [I wanted to make sure it was a wrap, not a sandwich] Him: [tap] Toasted? Me: It’s … a wrap. [The way this was going I knew this would happen] Him: Oh. Um. [Walks over to evening shift manager, discussion ensues, both return] Manager: White or whole wheat? Me: White. A white wrap. Not a sandwich. Manager: Yes, but they come in white or whole wheat. Me: I know. I wanted a _white wrap_. Manager: Okay. Him: Is that all? Me: No, I also want a chili with a buttered bun. Him: Butter one? Me: Buttered bun. Him: Buttered one? Me: _Bun._ A buttered. _Bun_. Him: Um. [Walks over to evening shift manager, discussion ensues, he returns] Him: OK. Chili. Is that all? Me: Yes. Him: OK. $12.02. Me: [hands over $12.02] Him: [To shift manager] With buttered bun. Buttered bun. He went about making the drinks. The shift manager went about making the food. Except she didn’t put extra mayo on the wrap, so I interrupt her as she’s folding it and tell her so. She begins squeezing mayo into the open end of the wrap. Keep a seat open, MENSA. Me: Um … are you going to open it up? Her: Oh, yes, yes. She opens it up and drizzles some mayo on the inside, then rewraps it. Then she dishes out the chili, puts it in a bag, and stuffs a bun inside. Plain. Me: Um … could I get that bun buttered? Her: You want butter on the bun? Me: Yes … yes, I do. Buttered. Bun. Buttered bun. I want a buttered bun! This is not cold fusion! We’re not mapping the human genome here! Buttered bun! She slices through the bun and butters it. On one side. At this point I just couldn’t be bothered explaining the merits of buttering _both_ sides of a bun that’s obviously going to be dipped in chili and let it go at that. I take my food and leave. GAH!
