It's a girl! Gwendolyn ????? Chance

That’s great until the other kids in elementary school read King Lear.

I kid, I kid.

Actually, that’s what happened to me. It works pretty well because my middle name can also be used as a male first name.

Gwendolyn Emily has a nice flow to it. I’m thinking that since the first name ends in a consonant, the middle name should start with a vowel. Gwendolyn Alice? Somehow this is logical to me.

I think Gwen is a very pretty name. I went to school with a girl named Gwendolyn Rae and I always thought that was a pretty name.

The sonogram pictures are so cool… especially the open mouth one!!

I don’t know why, but I am ‘hearing’ that name paired with something ending in -ette. Gwendolyn Juliette, for example.
It all depends on your last name though.

You could always go with one of four classic american middle names:

Elizabeth
Marie
Ann(e)
Michelle

Well, I suppose you could go for an Oscar-Wilde-geek theme, and make it Gwendolyn Cecily (might be a bit of a mouthful, though). Lovely first name, whatever you choose for the middle one.

I love Gwendolyn, watch out though, some people may attempt to call her Wendy for short.

To go with it, I agree it should be something short. Rose, May, and Hope are nice ones.

How about Noel; Gwendolyn Noel Chance.

By the way you know that kids are going to call her Gwennie don’t you???

How about Gwendolyn Bo-Bendolyn Banana-Fana Fo-Fendolyn?

THAT is exactly the sort of post that makes this board great!

Lady Chance is waffling on the name now. But I really like Gwen.

And I was thinking ‘Gwendy’, myself.

I like cazzle’s suggestion – Gwendolyn Claire. That really has a nice flow to it.

– Dragonblink, who has one of the Big Three middle names that 90% of females seem to have (Mary/Marie, Lee/Lea/Leigh, Christine/Christina)

Bonne?

Is Chance your real last name? Because with a name like ‘Gwendolyn Chance’, in my opinion, you don’t really need a middle name. That’s a kick-ass name, and a middle name would disrupt the flow.

And then I say: May I suggest Eva?

Is Chance your real last name?

Argh! There was supposed to be a parenthetical after that. Very well, I’ll put it here:

(You obviously don’t have to answer that)

I almost agree with this. While she wouldn’t need a middle name, she would need a middle initial. Just name her Gwendolyn R. Chance or Gwendolyn Q. Chance.

Of the names suggested so far, I think Leigh is the best. It has the nicest flow to it.

I’m big into the rhythm of letters in peoples’ names, dunno why. But, you know how too many hard consonants can make a name bumpy, right?

Maybe I need to spend less time alone.

Anyway.

I think she needs a one-syllable middle name, and soft. I like the suggested Leigh. I don’t know how the whole name works together (unless your last name is Chance).

For some reason, I put “Doctor” in front of names when they’re not associated with people. And I do it with first names, so it’s not really realistic, is it? Anyway, “Doctor Gwendolyn” has a nice ring to it.

How many syllables does your last name have?

I’m a 2 2 2. I like it.

Gwendolyn Marie Hassenpeffer.

How about the name Jean? ‘Gwendolyn’ is pretty, and ‘Jean’ adds a little sass. For extra style, you can spell it like my middle name, ‘Jeanne’.

Just make sure you don’t give her a middle name starting with a vowel - she will hate you if her middle initials end up to be GAC! (or will it be GAW, I’m not totally sure what your last name is?)

Avoid all the boring middle names that everyone uses: Ann, Rose, Marie, Lee, Lynn.

Haha, that’s funny. Kids reading. Ha!

I still like the old ‘President of the United States’ test for names, I think it’s helpful. I have to vote against Gwendolyn Emily, though. With the two short e’s, the two ns and the two ls, I think it’s a tongue-twister in the making.

Cazzle’s Gwendolyn Claire is excellent. Claire is really a good name under any circumstances…

However, I must say that nothing can match the sublime “Ryan.” Think of it: Gwendolyn Ryan Chance. Flows trippingly off the tongue, plus her initials would sound like some new type of sports car (the Ferrari GRC!).

The fact that my name is Ryan is a complete coincidence, BTW.
