It's a MAGAZINE not a Clip

Umm Klaatu? You need to get busy bros.

Apparently there are a lot of people in this world who are ignorant and need your guidance. Google search on" banana clip, weapon" pulled up hundreds of postings.

You should go and stridently lecture these ignoramuses. Preferably while they’re holding the aforementioned disputably monikered item.

And seriously,“Don’t know if it’s an urban legend that the M1 ping let the enemy know they were empty.” ?

If that’s an “urban” legend, what the hell kind of neighborhood did you grow up in?

Gun Appreciation Day Celebrated With Accidental Shootings at Gun Shows in North Carolina and Ohio (and now Indiana)

Have fun with this one:

haven’t read the thread-

Look, it doesn’t matter. colloquially, “magazine” and “clip” are equivalent. The M1 Garand and SKS are the only reasonably modern guns which use honest-to-god clips. And yes, I know you can charge an AR-15 or Mini-14 magazine with a stripper clip, but nobody does.

A mule is the get of a male donkey and a female horse.

A hinny is the get of a female donkey and a male horse.

Please make a note of this.

And in both cases, the parents are guilty of “miscagenation”.

Well, thank Heaven for that! I’m as open minded as the next fellow, but you have to draw the line somewhere!

Just over a little horsin’ around? It behooves us to be more understanding.

Yes, we need to learn to ignore the neighsayers.

And learn to appreciate “a horse of a different color”.

The only problem I have with the assault weapon/hunting rifle argument is that I have heard CNN’s Don Lemon(sp?) and several others say things like,“There’s no way you could hunt with an AR15, You’d blow the animal all to pieces.” I am not a gun nut. I currently own only a single-shot twelve-guage from about 1917. I like shooting. I find it enjoyable in the same respect as I find golf enjoyable. The concept is the same. Hitting what you’re aiming at from a great distance is challenging. There’s nothing more to it than that. That being said, I would happily give up shooting if it would save one life, let alone the lives of twenty-something children. I do not mean twenty plus year olds who never grew up(although I wouldn’t want any harm to come to them either.) It is fact that an M14 shoots a 7.62mmx51mm round(or .308). An AK47 shoots the same projectile with less powder behind it. This round is also very popular with deer and elk hunters. Most deer rifles are semi-auto. An AR15 shoots a 5.56mmNATO round.(or.223), also popular with deer hunters. A wood stock hunting rifle is no different from an “assault rifle” as currently defined. Pistol grips and folding stocks do not make a gun more deadly. Unfortunately, scarier guns are more effective at terrorizing victims. This causes the peices of shit that want to “Make an Impact” to gravitate to them. It’s about image, nothing more. Otherwise any hunting rifle would do. The fact is that you can very effectively hunt a deer/elk/moose with an M14, or a .308 or an AK47,as long as the “assault” versions of these weapons are semi-auto. They are virtually interchangeable. The same goes for deer and an AR15 or .223. I apologize for the extent of the explanation and I know I’m rehashing things that have been said ad nauseum by people who think everyone and their children should own a gun and love shooting.(which I do not!) I have no problem with limiting magazines to a specified number of rounds. This would make the would be shooter buy more magazines(I got it right twice!) and that would help this floundering economy;) It is extremely important that people know what they’re talking about, especially if they are talking about banning something that they’re not familiar with. I’m not really offering an opinion on gun control as much as I am lamenting the days when journalists were expected to have some semblance of knowledge of the subject on which they were reporting. In short, although I agree that the op is being nitpicky about the specific semantics, the importance of using neutral terms that relate facts to the populace in an effective and informative manner should be the goal of a good journalist.

Was that ever the rule? :dubious:

Yes, that’s the mane thing.

As a journalist, I know what you are talking about. My personal problem is when a journalist calls a semi-automatic firearm a ‘machine gun.’ Yeah, there are semantics there, but guess what: semantics are fucking important. It is blatant manipulation and/or intentional misuse of language to scare the readers more.

excellent example: Oklahoma Student Nabbed in School-Shooting Plot

they mention a ‘.22 caliber rifle mounted on a machine gun platform.’

here is what wikipedia has to say about the '.22 caliber rifle mounted on a machine gun platform."

not saying that wiki is the end all be all, but I just so happen to own a Marlin model 99 (the parent rifle of the Model 60,) and I can tell you that the only similarity it has to a machine gun is the fact that it is a repeating firearm. yeah, you can get some nifty assault rifle looking stocks for it, but the damned thing can’t even use a detachable magazine. definitely not a machine gun, but the media wants you to think it is one step away from an M-60 with rambo on the trigger.

Also, by using proper terminology, you take a lot of fear out of discussions.

Nifty looking? Pray, are you one of those mall ninjas I’ve heard so much about? Because I can’t imagine a Model 60, the choice of carnival shooting galleries everywhere, pimped up to look like an assault rifle looking nifty to anyone beyond the age of six unless he was trying to impress and frighten the rubes.

You actually read that whole, dense post? Good job!

Actually no, its a tactic. What’s the difference between a magazine and a clip? None? So lets ban them both! 2 birds with one stone! :D:D:D

It’s our duty as Charter Members. :solemn smiley:

Ah, crap. Maybe just one of us has to read them.

Actually, I just skimmed it. TL;DR and all. But I think most of it was about modern deer cartridges and I’m stuck in the “real men uses lever-action .30-30s” attitude, so it didn’t sound interesting.

I apologize for my posting style’s lack of posting style. :smack: I would agree with dropzone that a .30-30 lever action would be perfectly suitable for just about anyone who has need of a rifle and wants to aim between shots. TL is too long(?) What is DR?
