# It's a Tropical Storm Warning..

So, it looks like Tropical Storm Isaac is going to brush by this weekend. My part of South Florida is under a Tropical Storm Warning, which means tropical storm conditions are expected in the next few days.
The storm should be well to the west of me, but it’s huge. It should pass at its closest Sunday night/Monday morning, but we’re already getting outer bands of rain and winds.
People south of me, in the Florida Keys, will get much worse weather. And who knows where the storm will actually go.
Locally, I expect this to be more of an annoyance than a danger, as long as people don’t do anything stupid.

We didn’t even get much rain out of it, only gusting to 45 in Antigua. We had the airport locked down from the afternoon on Wednesday but it reopened in the early morning and didn’t amount to much.
Funny, you get into a bit of a time warp it’s confusing when nothing major happens, a few friends complaining about hangovers from storm parties felt a bit ripped off.

This storm is going to devastate [Haiti](http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/24/us/tropical-storm-isaac/index.html?hpt=hp_t1). They’ve got thousands of people living in tents, in low-lying areas with floods and mudslides likely. By this time tomorrow, most of those people will have lost the little that they had to this storm, and a lot of them may be dead.

FL panhandle here. Mobile Bay in AL seems to draw them like a magnet, which leaves us battered for being on the east side. Am already stocking up: gas, water, vodka…

I’m stuck in Fort Lauderdale with my husband in the hospital. I’m terrified that when they let him out, we won’t be able to find a flight home or a hotel room, and I’ll be stranded at the airport with a sick hubby.

Checking in from Key Largo:
Got my workplace all buttoned up, stuff off the floors because it floods in there sometimes. Headed to Winn-Dixie where every idiot like me that waited until the last minute was out shopping. Hey people, be sure to stock up on everything and use coupons so it all goes EXTRA slow! And bring your whole gaggle of kids to run around screaming in the aisles because people aren’t quite stressed enough!
Home now with my critters safe (on the 2nd floor), beer in the fridge and oreos. I feel fully prepared at this point 😉

It blasted about 70 miles offshore from Santo Domingo yesterday, and we’re still being pelted by heavy rain and wind gusts – no power since 4 A.M. and I have it good where I live. [Close to 8,000 people had to be moved](http://www.listin.com.do/la-republica/2012/8/25/244838/Siete-mil-776-los-desplazados-74-comunidades-incomunicadas-y-251). There’s obviously lots of flooding country-wide, but we really won’t know the extent of the damage until it at least stops raining…which is supposed to happen sometime tomorrow afternoon. 18-20" is the overall prediction.
I fear for the Haitians as they got (again) a full-on hit and due to deforestation, the land floods rather easily there. Hope it stays that way.

Got extra cat food. Can’t get one of my prescriptions until Tuesday ☹ so I’m minor stressed about that but I’ll live. On Monday, if it looks like it’s really going to hit here, “What’s for dinner tonight?” will be turkey, shrimp, bacon and more hamburgers than you can shake a stick at. 😛
That reminds me—need more charcoal!

It’s expected to be a hurricane by the time it reaches my general area. I live in an area that’s one step up from mandatory evacuation. I don’t intend to evacuate even if I’m told to-----I’ve got nowhere to go.

I had dinner near the beach tonight. Nice chop and plenty of winds. We should get the TS strength stuff tomorrow during the day. Schools are closed on Monday.
There is talk about tornado formation tomorrow, too. If that happens, things could be nasty.
I went to Publix this afternoon. It was busy, but not crazy. They had plenty of everything on the shelves still.
I’m concerned for people in the gulf. Isaac could strengthen noticeably before it hits the mainland.

The east side of a storm is the worst. The southwest quadrant really is the dry and weak side of the hurricane. Gustave and Rita grazed us with the southwest side and while there was minor wind damage, there was no flooding.
And never say that a storm is “just” a tropical storm.

I’m a few miles due east of Sawgrass Mills Mall, for anyone who knows the area in Broward.
The first few outer bands have come through here. Right now it’s breezy and cloudy, but that can change very quickly. We’re under a flood watch until 8pm tomorrow, and a tornado watch until 5pm today. I suspect the tornado watch will be extended.
Local news reported that there are some scattered power outages in the city next to me. That’s anywhere from a few hundred feet to several miles away.
We are going to be in the dirty part of the storm - the north east quadrant - for a while today. It’s going to get worse than this. But hopefully not too much worse, at least in my area.

another tampa/st. pete resident here. the clinic i work in is staying open, last i heard, but i’m a little worried about driving there at 5 am since heavy rain and wind is expected around that time. other than that, i’ve got plenty of non perishables and a law and order marathon to watch, so i’m good. 😃

They’re evacuating the planes from the naval base today. Gas is sold out everywhere. Some people are already putting up shutters. Tomorrow we’ll start bringing in everything we need to from outside. We’ve still got two more days to hurry up and wait, but right now all the projections show it hitting right here on our little **X** so it doesn’t seem like an over-reaction. We haven’t had a hurricane in years (no use knocking on wood now) and we’re a little rusty at the drill, but it’s like riding a bike…in _The Wizard of Oz_…up in the air. By Tuesday night we’ll all be pedalling like crazy just to stay in place.

Most of the real dirty bands have come and gone. There are still some impressive blobs of rain - one is going through right now.
A friend of mine dumped 4.5" of rain from her gauge about an hour ago. I bet she’s had at least another inch since then.
We are still under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Flood Watch, but the Tornado Watch expired at 5.
There is a bit if standing water near the house, and one palm frond down. If that’s the extent of damage, I can deal with it. The storm has been just about what I expected locally.
I am still worried about where it goes from here. We’ve had more than one ‘minor tropical storm’ come through that became nightmares elsewhere.
