I live alone and have no sense of smell, so the next day… mostly.
Unless I use one of the cast iron pans; those get cleaned as soon as they’re cool enough to wash safely.

Usually, my wife cooks and I clean. But she generally cleans up the pots and bowls as she goes. I ueually soak the dishes immediately and then load the dishwasher and empty the dish drainer an hour later so that I don’t have to dry what is draining. The sink is clear before bedtime.
Any of the first 3, depending on the day. We’re trying to develop better housekeeping habits, and we have an unlucky combination of no dishwasher or counter space, we try to do it at least the same evening, ideally as we go and finishing up the pots before we sit down to eat, but sometimes they go a day or three. I guess on one hand the lack of counter space is a good motivator, since even one dinner’s dishes looks like a huge amount sitting in the sink.
