RNATB is correct about Oberlin’s distinctions. I remember there was a picture of Oberlin in my high school American history textbook.
The Wiki article is correct about the difference between judges and magistrates. Also, judges in Ohio are elected and magistrates are appointed.
My dad dated Judi Dench one torrid summer while he was visiting England in the mid-Fifties, when he was in the Army and she was a rising young actress (there’s more to the story that I could bore you with, if asked). They’ve kept in touch off and on since then. He and my mom visited her backstage on Broadway a few years ago when now-Dame Judi was appearing there, and she was very welcoming.
Washington is my favorite president because of his courage and determination during the Revolution, his willingness to risk his reputation to preside over the Constitutional Convention, his virtual invention of the Presidency, and his absolutely crucial willingness to yield power both as general and as President. We would not have the country we have today had it not been for his bedrock integrity and commitment to the young republic. He was unquestionably, as Abigail Adams described him, “modest, wise and good.”
Now everybody go rent Breaker Morant, and have a great weekend!
