Tell me something that you dislike, except for that one quality about that you just love. Could be anything, food, maybe something about a particular style clothing or, or, well, just anything I guess.
For example, I detest canned jalepenos. Not fresh, love me some fresh jalepeno peppers, but those ones that come in the jar, pickled, cut into rounds, the have a weird off putting taste and texture to me. They have this amazingly bouquet that makes my mouth water and rouses my appetite. That smell doesn’t translate from the nose to the palette.

So what’s your thing that has that one special quality that you really like even though you dislike everything else about that thing?

Popcorn. It smells fantastic when it’s fresh and hot, but has the taste and texture of styrofoam. Our last dog wouldn’t eat it, either.

While I don’t like most rap, I’ll concede that the vocal delivery is usually more rhythmic than in other kinds of popular music.

I’ll go one step further and say that some of the best rap songs that I’ve heard have some fascinating rhythms. Virtuosic even.

But, in my opinion, rhythm is the poorest musical parameter in terms of expressive possibilities, way behind harmony, melody, lyrics and even texture. Unfortunately, on those counts, rap fails totally.

The song, _River Deep-Mountain High_. It has absolutely nothing to recommend it apart from Tina Turner’s magnificent vocals which, despite every attempt by Phil Spector, Jack Nitzsche, and every damned member of the Wrecking Crew to bury them, is probably one of the greatest vocal performances on record. (Just ignore the vapid Barry/Greenwich lyrics).

Seconded. It might seem creepy if we talk about that scene too much, but it’s outstanding. The rest of the film is okay, except for the parts with Tarantino (now _that’s_ creepy), with the volume muted while I’m doing something else.

I don’t like squash. I can tolerate summer squash, but I actively detest winter squashes.

Despite that, I have to admit that they have _fantastic_ marketing. Dishes using all types of squash always look appetizing and sound good, right up until I actually eat said dishes, and I remember “Ugh, I don’t like squash at all.”

While most people agree all the Star Wars prequels are crap, I say “Yes, but” about the 3rd one. Yes, the Yoda / Emperor fight was silly, and Obi-Wan telling Anakin “You can’t win. I have the higher ground” was ridiculous.

However, the storyline behind Anakin’s eventual betrayal of the Jedi was intriguing and subtle. Obi-Wan didn’t want to appear in front of the press with Anakin after their successful mission, signaling to Anakin that his mentor doesn’t have his back any more. Anakin told Yoda of his vision, where he saw Padme die. Yoda didn’t tell him “Don’t worry, we have your back,” instead telling him he had to accept it and couldn’t change anything. Senator Palpatine actually talked to him like he was an equal, and even warned him about how the Dark Side would effectively ruin his life, but actually sided with him and supported him. Palpatine was masterfully playing a long game to get Anakin to turn, and trapped him inside a robot shell life of misery and hatred, but in so doing created the most feared warrior in the galaxy.

So that.

I give a lot of credit to the music here as well as Salma Hayek. Tito and Tarantula were a good band in general and [After Dark](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KR_Nhm1BnA) was probably their strongest song.

You are, of course, 100% correct – without the music, the dancing ain’t so much. And it’s the perfect tune for the scene. This is probably just me, but the better the music, the more it becomes seamless to the scene, the more I don’t notice it for being a separate piece of artwork. Does that make any sense?

**Superman Returns** wasn’t my idea of a great movie; I’m not sure it was _anyone’s_ idea of one, or even of a particularly good one.

But the piano scene _worked._

[Invisible Agent](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Agent) is a very bad movie. But Peter Lorre is a great villain, and his final scene is awesome.

Early in the film, the German spymaster and the Japanese spymaster are plotting their Diabolical Scheme. The German says, “If this plan fails, Hitler will have me shot, and you’ll have to commit suicide to apologize to your emperor.”

After the plan fails, the German double-crosses the Japanese, trying to frame him for the failure. A three-way fight breaks out, between Germans, Japanese, and Allies. In the midst of the chaos, the Japanese sneaks up on the German and pulls a dagger. He says, “I will make an honorable man of you yet, my friend,” and stabs the German in the stomach.

On the topic of Star Wars, I’ll go with the sequel trilogy. Making it up as they went along, storylines that are started and never developed, bringing back Palpatine for another go round, bringing back the legacy characters who as it turned out did nothing but take away screen time and story development from the new characters, and so on.

But I liked that they made Rey a Mary Sue. One of things that bugs me about all the Star Wars prior to the sequel trilogy is that they all imply Jedi are inherently less capable than Sith. Having a Mary Sue Jedi was nice to see, even if she did inherit her skills from grampa.

Coconut. I hate the texture of it, I hate it on my desserts, keep your stupid fibers away from me, I hate the scent in soaps, I don’t like coconut coffee.
But coconut oil is SO GOOD for my skin and coconut hair cream is so good for my hair. This is what I use for my curls:

Can’t stand rap music, but realized that Blondie did one of the first rap songs - ‘Rapture’.
RAPture. It’s not all Rap. There is just a little bit. But it’s great.
