"It's better than crap" marketing tactic

I imagine it would be hard to get good sushi in Houston. There, you should probably stick to steak and ribs. Next time you’re in Los Angeles or San Francisco you ought to try some sushi. You can even get fish fresh enough to make your own sushi for a reasonable price, although it’s kind of a pain in the ass.

Nine out of ten housewives can’t tell the difference between Whizzo! brand butter and a dead crab.

So not only did this particular advertisement stay on your mind for awhile, but now you’ve increased its audience by however many people view this thread.

Sounds like a pretty effective ad campaign to me.

The vast bulk of advertisement isn’t about attracting new customers. It’s about retaining the customers they already have. Gotta keep the name and image at the top of peoples’ minds.

Because there’s a very low Asian population. Obviously you don’t have to be Asian to make or eat sushi, but it’s probably not much in demand in Houston.
