It's Billie Joe McAllister Day!

Seems like just yesterday we did a thread like this.

I can’t believe a year has come and gone since I heard the news 'bout Billie Jo.
mmm

I’ve kept quiet all day, time to gush:

OtBJ is one of the best story telling songs EVAH! Nylon guitar, silky, smoky vocals, the bass line sounds hot and tired, NO PERCUSSION, and Southern Gothic string section. A masterpiece. The pops and clicks on my 45 (remember them?) make it sound even better–more authentic, somehow.

I hope she made a bazillion bux from that one.

She was married to Jim Stafford.

:p:D

 :stuck_out_tongue:

A few years pass, and–the way you feel about her, you don’t wanna play with frogs anymore.

And that’s why her brother moved to Tupelo.

It’s Billy Joe McAllister day…again.

Which is the most important remembered day in June: The third (BJM day), the sixth (Convoy day) or the sixth (D-Day)?

Watch out for that virus goin’ 'round.

Yeah, papa caught it and died last spring.

I guess I don’t want to do much of anything now

Mama wants to know what’s happened to my appetite

I always wondered about this. A year has come and gone, so it’s early June again. Papa died “last” spring–but we’re still so close to spring that I would think she’d say “this spring.” If someone said to me today, “My dad died last spring” I’d think they meant spring 2015.

Maybe it’s different if you grow up in the shadow of the Tallahatchee Bridge.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking this.

This thread is so 2014. The new thread is here

If you re-make that song to 2016 standards, I’m going off the bridge.

Unless Weird Al makes “Ode to Billy Joel.”
