Thanks for posting the article. It’s paywalled but you can get access with a free registration. I signed in with Google and finally got to the article after lots of clicking that mainly involved declining stuff. Anyway, happy birthday to us! 🥳 Strangely, I haven’t heard any fireworks in the runup to Canada Day, but I expect tonight will be a noise-fest, and it will likely continue through the weekend. ---

I thought so too, but the weatherfolk is calling for dampness. Why do weatherfolks always look so happy when announcing the latest storm, heatwave or run of freakish weather conditions? ---

Yes, high probability of extreme dampness tonight, but that doesn’t necessarily stop the enthusiasts of exploding objects. But tomorrow will be fine, so I expect an explosive Saturday night! ---

I’m not Canadian but I did grow up a stone’s throw from Canadaway Creek in western NY. Up until now I didn’t know that “Up Canada Way” was a song lyric, and now I won’t be able to think about the creek without thinking of the song. ---

Happy sesquicenti-quinquennial to all Canadians! That probably isn’t the word. Happy 155th!?! (Decades ago, GAMES magazine had a competition for the longest word you could make with four consonants. I came up with _sesquiquinquennially_, as did several others.) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/its-canada-day-up-canada-way/967257.md?page=2)
