I’m already over intrigued with graveyards. I like to find old out of the way ones and make etchings of interesting headstones.

Being cremated allows you to opt out of funeral parlors. We simply had services for each of my parents at church and gatherings either there (for mom, because it was darn cold out) or at a family member’s house (for dad, which was in summer). A friend’s spouse rented a public place for a memorial service a few months after his death. It’s what they both wanted because it gave her time to mourn without having to be social right away.

Another friend had her husband cremated in California, where he was working and then brought his ashes back to MN for a service here for her family and friends. His ashes will be scattered in California, which is where he grew up. She has been unable to contact his estranged family about it.

The funeral parlor may be expected, but it is certainly not necessary.

So true.
We went through the funeral parlor thing in 2015 like 6 times (it was a bad year)
I had horrid reminders at our latest deaths.
I so don’t want my kids going thru this. I’m making my plans.
