# It's hot.

Northern Cameroon is really, really hot.
Today, my thermometor said it was 120 degrees. It does not get below 100 at night.
I no longer sweat. The sweat evaporates instantly, leaving a fine salty crust. My fan does not help. It blows painful air on me.
I do not need to use a towell after the shower because it dries instantly.
I drink five liters of water a day, and still only pee twice.
It’s hot. Can’t move. Dreading the walk home.

Hey, in Niger I used to bicycle to work in 130-degree heat. Of course, the office had air conditioning, which somewhat mitigated the suffering.
Ah, well, just wait for the harmattan. It’s only, what, eight months off?

I honestly can’t imagine heat like that. I’d be dead within an hour. And the worst is the heat at night. How can you sleep when it’s 100 degrees?
It’s 50 degrees and partly cloudy here in the good old Pacific Northwest.

I tend to stay inside when it gets really hot here in NY. How long did it take you to adapt to those temperatures **Sal**?

Hard to say. It gets surprisingly cold in the Sahel in December-January – like mid-30s. Then come spring, wham. I guess you could say there’s no real getting used to it. You just deal… and bitch. I at least had air conditioning, at home and at the office, which is more than **even sven** has, I think.
But it is true that the dryness of the heat makes a difference. On the coast where it’s about 98 degrees with 100% humidity, it’s a different kind of misery.

When I moved to Phoenix and saw the Valley Bank Building display 123 degrees in August I took a picture of it and thought it was quite novel.
_ **That** _ was the first year…then I dreaded walking the dog and doing anything outside. Eventually, I got used to it, and everything over 105 is just plain hot! Fair thee well.

72 degrees and partly cloudy right now here, which is the Bay Area’s weather for about 80% of the year. I’m not sure how I’d react to shifting back to a more…interesting…climate.
