Over in the [annoying commercial thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=829826) we are beginning to be annoyed at holiday commercials. I don’t want to talk about annoying holiday commercials, though. I want to know if you have an iconic now-it’s-the-holiday-season ad. Because we all need to get into the Christmas spirit of buying stuff. I don’t think I’ve seen the Norelco ad mentioned in the title in ages, but it sure got young me excited for the coming of Christmas and I think of it fondly to this day. The Coke polar bears is a more recent favorite holiday commercial. What commercials make you think “Yay! Presents are coming!” ---

I love seeing the Norelco commercial! That meant Xmas was just a couple weeks away. That was back when Xmas wasn’t promoted until mid-December! ---

Nöelco - Even our name means Christmas! Publix supermarkets produce some really nice commercials every year. Often with those come-to-life salt-and-pepper shakers. ---

I always associate the Norelco Santa commercial with the Rudolph special. I don’t know if that’s the only time it was shown, but that’s the association in my mind. Thanks for the memory! ---

They haven’t run them for years, but Canadian Tire’s Give Like Santa, Save Like Scrooge ads used to be. ---

[The Hess Toy Truck ads.](https://hesstoytruck.com/) Even back when Hess still had gas stations, this is the only time of year they would run TV ads here, and only for the latest item in their truck series. First runner up is the car ads (especially Lexus) where the car is wearing a big bow on the hood or roof. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll ever be getting a Lexus for Christmas, though. Bummer. ---

My two “iconic” ones that seem to be around are the Hershey’s Kisses ad where the kisses are played like hand bells (playing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”), and the Corona “Feliz Navidad” ad with someone whistling “O Christmas Tree” and then a palm tree lights up like a Christmas tree. The M&Ms “He’s Real! / They’re Real!” ad is getting there, but I think it’s still a little new to be “iconic” just yet. And, of course, it’s just not Christmas without the San Francisco Ballet commercials for that year’s Nutcracker performances, but those change from year to year. ---
