So, I turned 40 today. Came in to work a little late, got some beautiful flowers from my bf, a card hidden in my briefcase, and several nice text messages. Kinda goofing off here at work until my co-workers join me for lunch at one of my favorite mexican restaurants, then planning to work from home this afternoon. If your birthday was today, how would you choose to spend it? ---

Happy birthday! Sounds like you’re having a pretty good day already. I make a point of never working on my birthday, if it falls on a weekday then I book a day off. Sometimes I stay at home, have a lie-in and spend the day reading or watching old films, other times I might go out shopping and have lunch with friends. This year I went to Hungary to stay with a couple of friends who sold all their worldly goods and went to live on a smallholding. On my actual birthday, we were at a bar in a tiny village where nobody else could understand us (we were, obvioulsy, the only Brits in the bar). My friends are learning Hungarian so they were able to communicate with the other folks there, they found out it was my birthday and the evening turned into a proper little party. ---

Whee! Happy birthday to my favourite Doper! And you don’t look 40!\* 😃 And, for your birthday present, I’ll answer your question: I tell my wife every year I’d like to have a games night as that’s my favourite way to have a good time with other people. Doesn’t matter the game - pool, cards, cribbage, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Risk, you name it, I like having a games night, but we seldom do, so I tell her every birthday I want one, and lately every year I’ve gotten some form of one! - ignore the fact that I’ve never seen a picture of you since you turned 40, all your pictures of you were in your younger years that I’ve seen, so I can honestly say that “you don’t look 40!” ---

Melody, I am late to this party, I do hope there is at least a small slice of cake left! May I wish you a very Happy Birthday and indeed umpteen more Happy Birthdays to come. You asked what I would do if today were my birthday. Well, I think some of your “happy” rubbed off onto me. Today I signed a new contract. Good $$, international travel and challenging work.
