When I was younger, I remember going to parties and concerst and having a lot of fun on New Year’s Eve. Now, since I’ve had kids, I never do anything. It’s just another day. There’s nothing I can do to make it exciting or fun. I can’t even drink myself silly. My husband is laid up right now and can’t do much. The kids want to stay up to watch the ball drop and I just wanna go to bed same time I always do. I always get a little depressed on New Year’s Eve when I hear about all of the parties and things going on. I wish I could invite some friends over, but I don’t have many friends and the ones I do have live far away from me. Oh well, hope everyone else has fun tonight. 🙂 ---

If it makes you feel better, I don’t think I’ll be doing anything tonight. Just staying at my parents’ place (woohoo), and watching a Canucks pay-per-view game. My sister and I could have gone over to our friend Melia’s place to hang out, but Mom put the kibosh on that. (my brother’s not here… he’s at a conference that doesn’t wrap up till tomorrow) F\_X ---

Eh…I don’t have the kids excuse. Today I’ve been to the grocery because I’m making a pot of chili either tonight or tomorrow, but beyond that I think I’ll pop a movie in the VCR and just hang out and watch it. It’s not a holiday I’ve ever celebrated in any significant way, so I’m not that worried about it. ---

I personally find New Year’s Eve the stupidest holiday of all…last night you could have gone out to your local bar with $20 and had fun. Tonight you need $100 or more to be crammed elbow to elbow with a bunch of drunks wearing stupid hats. On New Year’s Eve I prefer to stay home, eat well, have a drink and try to stay up long enough to see Dick Clark drop his ball. I am usually asleep by 12:08. Seriously, Ground Hog Day is more fun than going out on New Year’s Eve. The only exception to this rule is if you have just a very few friends over, have them stay the night, rent some classic film or play a board game and then party on past midnight… ---

I’ll be busy preparing for tomorrow’s New Year’s feast, which I host every year. The bf will be over to serve as “scullery maid” as he calls it, meaning he’ll do the washing up as I do the preparing. Wonder if I could talk him into being “scullery maid” while wearing a leather thong…hmmmmmmmmmm…😃 ---

I’ll be working for most of the night. I will get off before midnight. I quit drinking two months ago, so no hardcore partying. I think I’ll just cuddle up with my b/f and fall asleep. I’m not one to watch the ball drop either. ---

This Dick Clark tradition that is so embedded in the US culture - does it only happen for Eastern Time, or does it get repeated at the right hour for each timezone? ---

Another one here for _couldn’t give a rat’s patooty_. When I was younger I did go to a few parties and make an arse of missen. But don’t see a reason to do so anymore. Does this make me an ol’ fogey? Probably. Oh well… I’ve had 2 shandies, cooked goulash and mustard mash for dinner, watching hubby play _Vice City_ and will probably be snoozing by 11 (2 hours from now). Just another day in my book nowadays. ---

Yeah, I don’t really give a rodent’s rectum either. No parties to go to. I’ll probably just sit and watch _The Twilight Zone_ marathon. My hamhocks and blackeyed peas are slowly cooking, and will be done in an hour or so. The collard greens are on. No sense waiting for New Year’s Day to have the traditional New Year’s fare! So teevee and eats for me. ---

I think I’ll also be spending this evening at home. I don’t usually get invited to NYE parties, all the ones around here are $75 and up, and I’m not sure I want to brave the Inner Harbor crowds. Thus I’ll probably spend the evening seeing whether Bacardi tastes better with Coke or Egg nog and what best mixes with Maker’s Mark. Whee! ---

The Sibs are coming over for a rip-snortin’ night of Chinese checkers. Wait for the ball to drop and a toast and eveyone’s out the door by 12:04, and we’re alseep by 12:06. Dragongirl, my husband and I don’t do anything either. Our reasoning is this: 1. It’s probably the most dangerous night to be anywhere but home. 2. We don’t relish spending the evening with drunks (even though we are lushes ourselves). :eek: 3. We just don’t have many friends that we sincerely want to be with on a regular basis. 4. We’d rather be at home playing Trivial Pursuit or PS2, eating pate and cornichons and drinking champagne with our dog and cat!🙂 ---

I’ll be lucky to be awake past 10pm. NYE has never been a big whoop for me, so it’s just another day. I do like the idea of having a Wednesday off, though.
