I am cleaning out my closet at the Chateau in preparation for a big move. I wrapped up my sisters glassware, and have started a bag of stuff for goodwill. I may get some new clothes tomorrow too.
Also at the Chateau, the bathroom is being totally redone, as the wax seal for the toilet is fucked, and the floor and subfloor were rotting out, Mom and Jeff went and picked out everythin a couple days after christmas.
When my three daughters were living at home, I used to take them to the video store and let them rent all the monster/scary movies they wanted. We would stop to pick up a huge bag of Chinese take-out on the way home. Any and all of their friends were invited to join us.
We would spread out quilts & pillows in front of the TV, pig out on Chinese food and watch monster movies until midnite. We toasted in the New Year with Sparkling cider, and I would spend the rest of the night beseeching all those girls to “Quiet down, NOW!” “OK, this time I REALLY mean it!” “This is the LAST time I’m going to ask you nicely to quiet down!” It seemed like a mere eye blink in time until I was asking blearily “Ummm, who wants french toast?”
My youngest left for college two years ago, and I miss our Monster Movie Marathons. New Year’s just isn’t the same.
I am going to sit in my empty movie theater and put my favorite music cds in the sound system deck. Then I’m going to sit in the dark and listen to music by myself in a big empty auditorium, drinking wine and eating cheese.
I spent my NYE doing dishes, and laundry, and eating leftover chinese food. At midnight, I watched the fireworks over the harbor from my living room. I’m drinking a beer now, and probably heading to bed within the hour.
I realize this year especially that new year’s eve is the stupidest holiday of the year.
My brother (who will be 21 in 4 months anyway) bribed me to buy him a bottle of southern comfort for him and his friends…a decision I’m really regretting now. I went out with them to dinner (we had to try four places which were closed before we ended up at Friendly’s) and he decided to go off with them and I wanted to go home, so he got into their car and I took my car home. It was SOOO foggy tonight that it really scared me. I kept driving onto the wrong side of the road due to not being able to see anything. Even though it was kind of out of my way, I jumped on the highway as soon as I could find it, because at least that way I won’t have to worry about crossing over to the wrong side, and took it to the exit near my home. If the fog keeps up like this, I have a feeling there are going to be a TON of accidents tonight (since this, like march 17, is a holiday which is just an excuse to get drunk).
So, I spent it here in the safety of my basement. I watched Adult Swim and then jumped over to Leno since Cartoon Network was still on commercials when 12AM hit. I REFUSE to watch Dick Clark…partially because it’s really fun to piss off the older folks who consider watching HIM a tradition, and also because I really hate his mandated lip-synch rule on all of his shows.
anyway…I don’t really care. I take 2003 to be a really boring year
I already had my fun in San Diego a few days ago, and am only here Dopin’ until my cough syrup with codeine kicks in and I can get some much needed sleep.
Oh, is this New Year’s Eve? Between the decongestant and the other stuff, I nearly forgot.
Well, just got home from bartending. Shift pay of $150 (in a check probably about a c-note) and cash tips of nearly $225.
I wish New Years came around more often.
Well, some friends of our planned a nice bonfire and cookout for last night, but Mother Nature had other plans. There were about 5 couples, but the cookout got moved from the big grill outdoors to the little grill in the garage (huge and well ventilated garage). The bonfire got really soggy, we spent the evening playing Taboo on their screened patio, listening to the rain.
Hubby and I left about 9:30 because I had to work today. It was a scary drive home because it was raining so hard you could barely see. I was asleep by 10:30. Hubby came and woke me up with a kiss at midnight, then I went back to sleep. Sometime shortly after that, the power went out for about two hours.
I assume that was because of the storm, but it meant some poor guys were out working on their New Year’s, in the rain.
