Well since someone else brought it up, I was a member of TOPS for a few years. It has a “whopping” membership of about 400 members. It seems that there are other even higher IQ societies - the International Society for Philosophical Inquiry for example. I don’t know what the specific requirements are but I believe your IQ must be something such as 1 in 2,500 of the general population. (No, I don’t think I’d gain entrance to that one). ---

I qualify for TOPS easily - 143 on the Weschler-Wais - _and I’m still dumb as a piece of granite_. A really dumb piece of granite. I mean, I’m astoundingly stupid in nearly every way possible, and my stupidity goes beyond people skills. I’m poor in academics, too - I failed Algebra I in high school, and after I passed it I failed Algebra II. I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. It takes considerable effort to move one hand independently of another, and between the one-handed hunting and pecking at the keyboard, and looking up every word in the dictionary, writing this very post took a full seventeen hours. I should form my own Society. I’ll call it Dumbos with Moderately High IQs. DUM-HIs. We’ll all qualify for Mensa, and see if people can tell us apart from the _real_ smarties. ---

Also a cakewalk for me to qualify for TOPS – and I’d put my granite-dome up against yours in a DUMM-OFF anyday. Just a good piece of evidence that IQ doesn’t mean a whole lot. ---
