I believe when the Pope says, “Jump”, an Archbishop asks, “How high?”. ---

Yes, Pope Francis has said altho abortion is a sin, the Church needs to keep out of politics. He also made it clear that is no reason to refuse communion. ---

It’s gotta be a huge PITA for Nancy when she goes back to SF for constituent visits. Every Sunday, instead of heading to Star of the Sea, she has to hop a flight to Rome. I imagine that would really take a chunk out of her day. She’d be lucky to get back to Fisherman’s Wharf before all the restaurants close. ---

According to a video I watched a while ago, not all agree with the hierarchical setup. Technically, the Pope is the Archbishop of Rome. You apparently can get other archbishops that disagree, and that disagreement is tolerated as long as the Pope doesn’t speak ex cathedra. And apparently the American archbishops are the ones who seem more likely to be more obstinate—especially the ones who think the Pope is too liberal. ---

Speaking ex cathedra is a requirement for infallibility, i.e., the theological doctrine that the Pope can’t err. Only pronouncements that the Pope makes benefit from infallibility. That almost never happens: There’s considerable ambiguity as to what pronouncements, exactly, were made ex cathedra; only two or three are generally recognised as such, the last of them dating back to 1950.
