When I was a kid I had a regular barbie who had a camper. She used to go on camping trips with my brother’s GI Joe, which talked if you pulled its string. (This led to a prank in which my sister and I took the GI Joe and hid and tried to trick my father into thinking the guinea pig could talk.) Now I have an Operation Desert Storm Barbie and Ken. I’ll be glad to come over and play Barbies, though if Ken and Barbie see a Saddam Hussein doll there could be trouble. ---

Here is a newsflash for those of you who do not have kids yet. Ken is still GAY. There still are not any outfits that will make him less like a Chorus Boy On Parade. My almost 5 year old daughter has given up on Ken and has lesbian weddings daily in her room. :::::sniff:::::::: I’m so proud! ---

My Large Size Six-Million Dollar Man™ action figure would like to know **A)** how all you fine, fine plastic ladies are doin’ tonight and **B)** would anyone like to see him lift an engine block…? (Unfortunately, 12-inch Luke Skywalker is scared of girls and Giant Size GI Joe suffered deep emotional scarring in the war and lost the capacity to give or receive love.) ---

Aw, Peaches and Cream Barbie. That was my favourite one, I think. I would always twirl her around because the dress was made of such soft fluffy material, I loved the way it swished. I remember more than once as a kid having a dream that I had that dress in real life, and then being sad when I woke up and it wasn’t real. I also loved the Barbie with the glow-in-the-dark stars on her dress. I had Maxie dolls, too. Anyone remember these? ---

I’ve got a blonde bouffant Barbie, c.1965, but she’s lacking a pinkie finger. See, I was trying to stop biting _my_ nails… I never had the store-bought clothes, but my mom used to make extra money in those days by sewing and selling Barbie clothes. The stuff she made was wonderful! The bridal gown she made for me was amazing - lots of lace and beading!! Unfortunately, time, younger sisters, and cousins have taken their toll. I have a few well-tattered outfits left, no shoes or hats or accessories, no house, no car, no Ken, no paper furniture. But, c’mon, it’s been 40 years, fercryinoutloud! ---

My mom likes to remind me that I once called her at work “to settle a Barbies fight.” My mother declined to intervene until she got home – and gave me and my sister what for. My sister, might I add, is an _ass_. ---

“My” Barbies were really on loan from my older sister. They’re at her house now, in Vegas. All displayed and properly dressed and cared for. But, if you don’t mind a few interlopers, I have three Jodys. The Country Girl Doll, from the '70s. Anyone remember her? Long auburn hair and Laura Ingalls-style clothes? I also have…wait for it…Judy Littlechap. Now, I’ll croak if anyone remembers her! Miss Prep, physically larger than Barbie, resembling Jackie Kennedy. Plaid skirt, white blouse and faux-leopard accessories. She was also a hand-me-down, but Sis didn’t object when I claimed her. And, while I’m in the Wabac machine, I had a dollhouse called Smaller Home and Garden. I outgrew dollhouses shortly afterwards, so it just stayed in the basement until my nephew decided to bivouack his GI Joes in it, I let him take it. It was already falling apart, so he wrecked it a little more to make it Dresden, post-bombing. Yes, I was okay with this. (Now, if it had been one of the ones I made myself…) ---

My mom indulged my Barbie habit generously, but I think she was always disappointed that my favorite Barbie dress was a white irridescent number for a garage sale and my favorite doll was an androdgynous guy who I insisted was a girl. ---

I have very few of my childhood Barbies still intact, but I do have more than a few collectible ones. Not all of them are out though. Growing up, I had the Barbie Town House, which was the three story house with the elevator on a string (which my cousin broke-thanks so much, Craig Blair!). I also had a Barbie corvette, a Barbie hottub that made bubbles with a little pump, a fitness center, Barbie’s horse Dallas (inherited from a neighbor, my father was constantly glueing her legs back on) and a canopy bed. My dad also made me the most beautiful picnic table for my dolls out of popsicle sticks-I’m not kidding, that thing was a work of art. I had a Ken doll, but only one outfit for him, and when that started to fall apart, I just let him go naked and pretended he had clothes on. Special ones I remember having: Crystal Barbie Peaches and Cream Barbie Day to Night Barbie (my favorite and she got lost when we moved) Cheerleader Jazzy, Barbie’s teenage cousin Two Maxxie dolls-one was going to the prom, and the other was a cheerleader My Barbies were never happy. They were kidnapped and tied to chairs, committed suicide, were raped, robbed, murdered, turned tricks on street corners, etc. I blame it on all the soap operas my cousin and I would watch with my mom. Why am I not surprised that **Eve** has pristine, mint condition, original vintage Barbies? ---
