He was arrested at the bank the next day. His car got left in the bank lot. Which they promptly towed. He didn’t get out of jail for 4 days. :dubious: So we have his word that the teller looked him up and down like he was some sort of thug right? I happen to know that plenty of white people get arrested for this exact same thing. I wonder if they get looked at nastily first? Guy should sue the crap out of Chase, but this had nothing to do with race from what we know. ---

Seemed like a classic case of DWB to me. i.e. Driving while Black. Except this is BWB, Banking while Black. Racial profiling happens in all aspects of life. Driving, Airports, banks, elevators. Ever see a scared white lady hurridly exit an elevator right after a big black dude gets on? My roommate in college was black. Hanging with him I saw things much differently. Heck, I was treated differently just by being with the guy. ---

I also said above that he should sue the crap out of the bank. I guess the banks only make a mistake if you’re black? Hardly. ---

Weird observation from someone outside the US: that guy has an atypical African-American name. I’d assume he is 1st or 2nd generation immigrant. If he walked in with that much cash, I would have assumed he was of the affluent class that could afford to come to North America. ---

My freshman year in high school (the year 2000) all the black freshman were called into a room (in California, not like Mississippi or anything) with the dean and campus security in order to tell us to be on our best behavior. None of the white kids or even the Mexicans had to listen to the “behave” spiel. Just blacks (and I’m only half black, so the one drop rule still applies). So yeah, I’m not surprised at this in the least. ---

Arrested while attempting to cash bad checks = okay. Arresting someone cashing a perfectly valid check = not okay. This is the kinda thing that, I dunno, they should verify before slapping on the cuffs, but they didn’t. Now please answer the question of how many white people you know who have been arrested while cashing a valid check. ---

I’ve never heard of a bank arresting a guy for for attempting to cash a check that was issued by the bank in question, especially after they were given an extra day with the check and the guys ID to check out the story. How many people do you know who were arrested for the “exact same thing?” ---
