That’s Glen Hansard, vocalist for the band The Frames. He also is the lead in the movie in which that song appears, [Once](http://imdb.com/title/tt0907657/). Fantastic movie.

That performance was mixed really badly, though. Marketa is the _backing_ vocalist.

Isn’t this the love theme from _Transformers_?

-faints-

It’s from _Once_. I’m not sure if it was originally written for the movie though. Glen Hansard is the lead singer of an Irish band called The Frames - I heard it on one of their albums initially.

ETA: I totally agree, **interface**. Her voice should have been in the background.

How many of those movies still have people watching them? I think I’ve seen about 20 or 25 and have no interest in watching about half of the rest.

And seriously, the only reason I know anything about Annie Hall is that I still can’t figure out how the hell it beat Star Wars.

I don’t know, I figure I have seen over 50 of the 79 winners. Doesn’t mean I like them all, but I would like the see the rest.

As to how Annie Hall won over Star Wars, I hope you are joking? The bigger question is how movies like “Shakespeare in Love” or the “Greatest Show on Earth” won.

Shakespeare in Love is easy to know why it won: it’s a movie that if you know your Shakespeare it’s brilliant and it was handed out by a bunch of people who have worked in the theater.

The one I wonder about is Gentlemen’s Agreement.

Actually, here’s what wiki says:

> [@](#):
>
> Different versions of a few songs were previously released on The Frames’ album The Cost and on Hansard and Irglová’s The Swell Season (both released in 2006). As a result, questions were raised about “Falling Slowly”‘s eligibility for the best original song Oscar.[23] The AMPAS music committee determined that, in the course of the film’s protracted production, the composers had “played the song in some venues that were deemed inconsequential enough to not change the song’s eligibility”.[24] An early version of the last track, “Say It to Me Now,” originally appeared on The Frames’ 1995 album Fitzcarraldo. “All the Way Down” first appeared on the self-titled album from musician collective The Cake Sale, with Gemma Hayes providing vocals. The song “Gold” was written by Irish singer songwriter Fergus O’Farrell and performed by Interference.[1]

Waitadamnminnit!!! When Jon Stewart did the whole “pregnant women in the audience” schtick, Nicole Kidman was the only person who wasn’t shown actually in the audience. Then, later, she comes out to present an Oscar. And it was a good two commercial breaks before her appearance! What the heck! Was he joking about her being preggers? If so, is she too good to go along with the joke? I’m so not one one of her fans after she failed to stage an intervention to save Cruise from the Scientologists!

Razorette and I are kicking back with our Metamucil mimosas and imagining ourselves somehow part of the whole Oscar experience because … well … we are, after all, Netflix subscribers!

Oooooh, Travoltahhhh! Gotta go!

I didn’t realize three songs came from the same movie. Doesn’t say much about the music in 2007, does it?
