> Besides the extremely drawn out apocalypse of the _Left Behind_ series, are there any decent religiously based end-of-the-world movies out there? Not talking about parody movies like _This Is The End_, but serious god/goddess/godthing Apocalypse Now! films.

I’m pretty sure I’m just reminding you about **[The Rapture](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rapture_(1991_film))**(1991), which I’d like to be able to say confidently was the first religious apocalypse move, but I’m pretty sure someone would be along to list something from the silent era.

Avengers: Infinity War? Or does it not count if only half the people on every planet in the universe are killed?

(Incidentally, it just occurred to me…did Thanos exclude from his snap the worlds that he already killed half the population of the messy way, like Gamora’s homeworld, or are those worlds now down to a quarter of their pre-Thanos-encounter population?)

In the 1978 remake of _Invasion of the Body-Snatchers_ it’s strongly implied that the pod people have won (or will shortly), and real humans wiped out.

It’s not clear whether the Apocalypse at the end of [_The Last Wave_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Wave) is real or imaginary, but it could be the end of the world.

Does _Rapturepalooza_ count?

I think it counts. It IS about the end of the world as WE know it.

I guess this movie [Night of the Comet (1984) - IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087799/?ref_=nv_sr_1) doesn’t technically fit the criteria, but it does whittle humanity down to a vapid Valley Girl and her even more vapid Cheerleader Valley Girl little sister and the only two non-zombie males within a thousand miles.

Assuming they were able to repopulate the world, it would have most certainly been as one of those Star Trek planets where the whole culture was based upon a single “style” like 1930’s gangsters - - - except in this case all of civilization would be based upon the styles, language, and values of spoiled shopaholics from the 1980’s.

The movie also boasts the quintessential absentee single mother from the 80’s, [Sharon Farrell - IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0268331/?ref_=tt_cl_t4) who might have been the original MILF (or at least I found her as compelling or more compelling than any of her movie daughters from that era despite the fact that she is a blue eyed blonde rather than my type, the brown eyed brunette - I sure would have volunteered to help her move and settle in after her Texas Ranger ex-husband abandoned her by the side of the road to go “negotiate” [using his fists and feet as negotiating tools one supposes] with hostage taking bank robbers). Note of advice, if you borrow her clothing without permission-- please, please avoid red wine.
