What is it with women of certain backgrounds? The woman today was wearing Daisy Mae short-shorts that showed off her cellulite to best advantage, and her long, badly dyed red hair framed a face that has been subjected to at least 50 years of cigarette smoke and sun. She also hasn’t seen a dentist in about that long. When she opened her mouth to speak, this horrifying tobacco rasp came croaking out in an accent that I can only describe as hillbilly meets Okie, object: trailer purchase. I guess people just don’t see themselves as others do. I’m gonna have dreams. ---

I use this paper to set my resumes apart. Two years worth of sending out resumes has failed to land me a job. I am running out of this paper. Seems to me there might be TWO logical conclusions after those thoughts: A) I need more paper with rounded corners so I can keep using it. or B) Employers DISREGARD resumes that stand out for quirky reasons, so maybe I should switch to normal paper. ---

I don’t think they disregard them so much as discard them. I’d stick with boring old regular paper if I were you. ---

I’d stick with boring old regular paper if I were you. The first time a potential employer sees my resume, it’s in Word. The paper has no effect on my getting an interview. I print out resumes when I’m going on an interview so I can hand over a paper copy. I like to have one copy per person I am interviewing with, and often I speak to several people at the same time. And while this latest round of job seeking has been about 2 years, Southworth hasn’t made this paper in at least 5 years, maybe longer. I bought my last box about 7 or so years ago. The corners are a subtle design element that help my resume stick in an interviewer’s memory, and I’ve gotten multiple compliments based on the fact that it’s a little different without being “out there”. It’s certainly nowhere near as “in your face” as the BSG paper linked to earlier in the thread. Besides, I like it. ---

I actually really like that. Most things people do to “make their resume stand out” are incredibly obnoxious. (Think Tobias and envelopes full of glitter.) This is subtle enough to avoid looking unprofessional, yet distinctive enough to provide a good memory hook. If I’m ever looking for a job again, I may steal it. ---

Eh, to each their own. My rant _du jour_ - the City of Calgary has moved to a reduced spraying programme to get rid of dandelions that’s about as effective as yelling at them. Everywhere I go, all the city properties are a sea of yellow and white - it just looks terrible. The city should be beautiful and green with everything growing and blooming right now, and instead it looks like a frigging dump. On the plus side, how awful everything looks and all the complaining from citizens might actually force them to reconsider their ineffective programme. Now, if we could just do something about the Piece of Shit Bridge… ---

There was a “Code Brown” in my neighborhood pool earlier today…it’s currently closed. I never use the pool, but I do find it disgusting that the parent of the diaper-clad (no rubber pants!) pool crapper left without notifying property management. The notification email that was sent out strongly insinuated that there had been witnesses; hopefully this jackass family will be banned for the season. ---
