I said only if interfering but I may as well have said always. Our cat is very affectionate and sleeps with me most nights, so if we’re in bed he considers that an invitation to join us. ---

One of the dogs and two cats are usually in the room with us. They don’t even notice I don’t think. We had a puppy in the room but that didn’t last long. He has a nice house outside. There was just no way to do anything with him in the room. ---

I’m not worried about the cats ‘watching’ us, or staring or anything. But our new kitty, Harley, _always_ thinks that any time I get in bed (or sit in the bathroom, or sit in the living room, or sit at my desk. . .) is time for petting and skritches. She is too young to realize that sometimes, I need, uh, skritches of my own. 😉 So the cats get tossed out, and the door gets closed firmly. We’re not worried so much about the other pets, since they all live in cages. . . ---

My dog normally just sleeps and ignores whatever is happening on the bed. Occasionally he wants to crawl up and sleep on the bed while I’m getting busy but it’s easy to chase him off. The last time I had a girl over he decided to sniff and lick her breasts and for some reason wouldn’t stop. I had to throw him out of the room then. ---

My cat insists on being in the same room as me - she complains, loudly, when she can’t find me. But she’s more flexible on giving up the bed. So there’s no reason to kick her out, and every reason to leave the bedroom door open. ---

Never. Our cats are immobile lumps, and sometimes I’ve rolled over only to discover my cat is _rightthere_ next to me, bored but content. It’s more distracting and interrupting to move them (see “immobile lumps”) than to just let them be. ---

When we tell our dogs to get off the bed, they get off. Our younger dog sometimes wanders away, but our late dog did not like being alone, and things went much better with him sitting in his bed than with him scratching at the door. ---

The dog won’t even get off the bed, never mind putting up with being banished from the room. She just finds a far corner and settles in for the friggin’ show. Luckily, she’s small and mostly inconspicuous. ---

There is not quite enough room on a king size bed for two boxers and two humans even when we are just sleeping. The dogs usually get around this by sleeping half on top of me but during sex they’re kicked off of the bed which usually means they leave the room. They sneak back when things quiet down and try and take over as much space as possible. ---

I said “sometimes”. There is a great deal of spontenaity involved, so we can’t always have things set up just right. But ideally, if I get a wet lick on the butt I’d rather it not be from a dog.
