From ESPN article about Paterno biography, the day after he was fired: “My name,” the Hall of Fame coach was quoted in the excerpt as telling his son and quarterback coach, Jay. “I have spent my whole life trying to make that name mean something. And now it’s gone.” I think this highlights the problem, the importance of his name/legacy grew to an unhealthy point with him, his family and most people associated with the program. ---

Well isn’t that telling. And here for the last fuckload of decades the public line has been that JoePa is all about the kids. Everything is about the kids. Not the game. Not the wins. Just the simple purity of being there for his student athletes. Now, post-mortem, we find this out. It isn’t about the kids. It isn’t about Penn State University or the NCAA or football. It’s about making his name mean something to everyone else and to himself. Well, doesn’t that just beat all. ---

Dear **Raft** and **liz** , the jury heard testimony and found the same things I did. Men and boys sometimes shower together. Paterno did not know what Sandusky was doing. Sandusky was acquitted of rape in the shower room incident. I was right. You were wrong. I won. You lost. End of story. ---
