SA, you’ve mentioned several times that “everyone used to think the world was flat.” That’s actually not true. It’s an urban legend. What people thought was that there wasn’t any land between Europe and China and sailing west would lead to certain death because no one could supply a ship for a voyage of that length. Since this is a board designed to fight ignorance, I thought it prudent to point out when a theory of yours isn’t supported by the facts. No need to thank me. ---

Thank you for that snapshot of what a certain people at a certain point in time and in a certain geographical point on the planet thought about the shape of the Earth. Funny how you don’t mention (and I’m not sure ever mention) the incredible harm done to children. _That’s_ why Paterno should have done more- not for Penn State, but for human children. And any thinking adult, from any generation still alive today, would see multiple allegations of inappropriate and naked behavior with children as a sign that more action needs to be taken to protect children from this individual. ---

Why should SA bother to mention “the incredible harm done to children”, when in his opinion, what was going on was "[not necessarily damaging to the child such as a faux-innocent hug or faux-innocent wrestling or horseplay"](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14711210&postcount=2328). Hey, the kid didn’t show any signs of distress. That’s what McQueary said and I see no reason to doubt his word. Unless of course his word in some way makes Paterno look bad, in which case his testimony becomes unreliable. ---
