SA, We understand that grieving takes a long time, and everyone goes at their own pace. But it’s been a year and you’re still stuck in “denial.” There’s four more stages of grief to work through if you’re going to get better. Then again, you’re still stuck in denial 50 years after being forced to play Hide the Soap with your camp counselor, so I understand this could take a little while. What a strange fucking think to hang your paper towel tube … I mean … hat on. Yeah, sure, Sandusky may well have molested dozens of kids, including that kid in the shower, but since the jury didn’t have enough evidence to declare that actual penetration took place that one time, you can’t call it _legitimate_ rape so every thing is sunshine and lollipops. Of course, this ignores the fact that you’re completely delusional regarding the notion that there’s been no proof of a cover up, but I gave up on your sad delusions ages ago. Guess who’s changing his tune on the Louis Freeh report? That’s right, guys. Bob Costas. The same Bob Costas that won an Emmy for his revealing interview of Jerry Sandusky. The same Bob Costas that hosted the Olympics and openly campaigned for us as a society to force the NCAA to shut down Penn State football before the first kickoff. It is not easy to change Bob’s mind, but to his credit he is getting there. And he is not alone. Again, for anyone willing to listen, this is happening. There will come a time in the not-too-distant future when everyone stops for a minute to reconsider their positions. By then, the wars over intellectual and yes even ethical bragging rights will have already been waged and won. Can you mentally maneuver your mind to stay ahead of the trends? Or are you more along the lines of those that rush to judgment to claim an early position and closing your eyes and clenching your fists and stubbornly hanging on for dear life no matter what comes? If you are somewhat open-minded and willing to reconsider, a great place to get started is with the two-page executive summary that presents the “reasonable conclusions” drawn from the review of 430 interviews, 3.5 million documents and emails, and about a half dozen transcripts of testimony from grand jury investigations. Read those “reasonable conclusions” and play devil’s advocate by taking a skeptical approach to your critical review. See if you catch onto the same discoveries of unsupportive evidence, blind leaps of logic and inferences that would never be taken seriously in a court of law. There is a reason why Louis Freeh made himself available to the public for answers only 55 minutes after releasing the report – he knew nobody would have time to read 267 pages and call him out on all the bulls#!t.
