I’m in the Salem, Oregon area. I was born and raised in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area but moved out here four months ago for a job and to get away from the conservative Christian atmosphere since I’m neither. And I don’t think I’m ugly, I just don’t think I’m cute… almost 23 years of being completely single will generally leave you with a low impression of your appearance. Not that I don’t appreciate the compliments… I’m just not sure I believe them. 🙂 ---

Before anyone jumps on Aesiron (just in case anyone does) it is a VERY racist place and bigoted. The scary thing was they were super-nice when we were looking, but the second we moved in they were horrible. I made only 2 friends in 6 months of being there, and they were outright mean to my mother at work. My next question is, are you only 23 years old? Cause if so, it’s a bit early to be stressing about finding an SO, \*\*if \*\* that’s what you’re doing. (it’s not early to look for one, just early to stress about one). About your looks: Well I honestly couldn’t answer truthfully unless I saw you in person. As that is a nigh impossibility, I don’t think you’re bad-looking at all based one picture in which you were drunk. That is hopeful, isn’t it? Anyway…you seem like such a nice guy that and listen to me it won’t matter when it’s important. We have (the SO and I) occasionally passed the thought of moving to Oregon once in a while. This is a little disagreement we have, as I am getting the itch to move out of NYS and he is so happy to stay in the same place (he grew up in Long Island and now he’s in Albany). I’ve heard many people call Oregon the country’s “best-kept secret”. ---

Well, I’m obviously white so my race had nothing to do with why I was uncomfortable in Tennessee. I just didn’t care to be surrounded by a bunch of condescending theists who thought I was going to go to hell for not believing and all the homophobes who thought I was less than human for being attracted to both men and women. Then, of course, there were all the good ol’ boys that I had next to nothing in common with and I was just uncomfortable so I moved and I’ve not regretted it yet. I’ll be 23 in January and I’m not stressed about finding a girlfriend. While having one would be nice, I’m not going to give myself hypertension by worrying about it. Besides, with my current financial situation being what it is, I don’t think I could afford to spend on a girlfriend what I think I should be able to anyway. And, again, I don’t think I’m ugly… I just don’t think I’m attractive. There’re lots of shades of grey between those extremes and I think I fit comfortable in them. If I were to lose a bit of weight and be able to get rid of the remnants of puberty that’re still on my face five years later, I think I’d be marginally cute but until then? Nah. Like I said though… I do appreciate the compliments even if I don’t buy them. 🙂 And finally, if you guys ever decide to visit out here to see if you might like the place, feel free to email me or something. If I have the room to spare at the time, I’d be more than happy to give you guys a place to crash for the interim and I’m sure my boss, **Gr8Kat** , would be happy to give you advice on the area surrounding Salem as she’s lived here her whole life. It really is beautiful up here. ---

Tell me about it. I had the world’s worst case of acne, started when I was 14-15 and went on well into my 20s. My best friend in High School was Indian (watching teachers try to pronounce his last name, Swamickannu, on the first day of class was always funny) but one that was well assimiliated (I even think he was Catholic) since he was a first generation American. I never noticed any overt hostility towards him but the other Indians in my school, the ones who barely knew any English and were pretty much there only because they had to be, were looked down on a bit. > [@](#): > > Dopers are so nice. Drops to the floor and… …performs simple two-handed pushups… -then- …much more complicated one-handed pushups -then- nearly rips a hernia performing the nearly inhuman no-hands pushups. :eek: Stands and gathers clothes and walks slowly out of thread, stage-right. ---
