I have no friends at all, real or virtual; dopers or otherwise.
It makes it much easier to post and seems to greatly simplify life.
As an aside, I did not know that “friends” thing even existed on a profile here. Is that like a Facebook thing where some people drum up hundreds of friends?
I have a lot of Doper friends, and I dated a Doper for awhile several years ago, but I don’t feel like any of them are as a result of purely posting - I attended a bunch of Dopefests, including several of the really massive Dopefests in Chicago and New York and LA and met them there. That leads to LiveJournal friendships, which leads to actual friendship.
If you’re not going to Dopefests, I think it would be weird if you did have Doper friends. If the board were smaller, it would be easier to make personal connections, but it’s just too big and fast-moving for that. Back when the SDMB was on AOL, I think it was more like that - although we all used screen names, we knew most of the regulars’ real names and addressed them as such when communicating, for instance - but since it moved to the web, it’s just grown too large.
I do, though the only post of yours I remember was in a healthcare or bailout thread where you said you were broke but didn’t qualify for Medicaid or something like that.
Also, you like Rush, probably.
