# I've been suffering from S.H.I.I. Once again, I seem to be suffering from S.H.I.I.\* I used to suffer from this years ago. I guess I never realized what was happening, but lately it’s recurred with a vengeance. I was golfing a couple of weeks ago by myself. I’d teed off on the 7th how, pulled my shot into the rough about 200 yards on the left side under a tree. A couple of guys pulled up to the tee box. One got out, grabbed his driver, teed up his ball, looked down range, and hit his shot. I stood watching, not believing that he didn’t see me, and watched his shot sail past me down the fairway. Before the 2nd guy could shoot, I shouted and waved my arms. They looked my way in confusion, and I gestured at them like “Hey, I’m right here!!!” He finally realized there was another human being on the course, and stopped before attempting to kill me. I hit my shot towards the green and continued on. The other guys drove down the fairway, picked up their ball, drove by me and said “sorry, we didn’t see you.” I mumbled something about “no harm, no foul” while glaring at them, and they continued on. Today, I finally realized. They didn’t see me because I was Fricking Invisible! (However this thing works, it obviously included my golf cart.) I’ve been affected by this disease many times over the years. I always thought I was being ignored by the bartender, waitress, other drivers, teachers, mothers. It can also affect your online presence. Emails that you thought got lost in delivery, texts that got ignored. In reality, they’re simply invisible! I can see this would be a very powerful tool if I could figure out how to make it SHVI. I suppose that would take the spontaneity out of the event. I hear you, and there’s a rift in the air, so you must be here. Yeah, I try really really hard to be the invisible person. I’ve been working on this technique for years. Hit or miss, is my best finding. So it is tiring. I see what I have to do now; Buy clubs Find a course Buy the cute golfing clothes and cool shoes Learn to golf IDK, do you rent or buy the carts? Find somebody to golf with, oh God, not a club full of _friends_? Nope. I’d have to deal with, talk to, become friends with(ick, they hug) with way too many humans. I’ll just be invisible in my dimly lit room. Not bothering anyone…shhh! Quiet as a mouse. ---

Once I was riding my bike down the side of a busy street. I approached the exit of a shopping center where there was a car waiting to pull out into the street. The driver looked right at me, then abruptly pulled out when I was a few feet from his car. I turned sharply left but was unable to avoid contact with the car, which then dragged me out into the street where I fell. The driver got out and predictably said, “Sorry, I didn’t see you.” Apparently my SHII covers a bicycle I’m riding as well. ---

Coincidentally, when I got my haircut this morning, I asked the stylist to just make me as invisible as I usually am. My wife and I have long become accustomed to being the invisible old people in the neighborhood. ost of the time, the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. ---

Owning your own clubs is good. Finding a course is easy. Judging from my years of golf experience, learning to actually golf is totally unnecessary. Cute clothes and shoes are FAB!! Rent the cart. Play by yourself. Somebody will sure to come along with plenty of advise on how to correct your slice. Prepare to be invisible… ---

I think there’s sometimes a passive agressive element to it. Once, in the gym, I was doing [weighted dips](https://www.hevyapp.com/exercises/chest-dip-weighted/). I was between sets (with the belt around my waist holding a dumbbell) leaning on one of the bars. A guy walked up to the machine and stared at it. I was at his 9 o’clock position, maybe two feet away. I waited a few beats, and asked him, “Do you want to work in?” He haltingly replied, “Are you using it?” It’s like the military adage: it’s easier to apologize afterward than to ask permission before. ---
