I have this setup, I have uninstalled zone alarm after gettigno threats. Sometimes I reinstall it just to see waht will happen. Always nothing. Zonealarm would be useful if you install things from the net to prevent an attack from inside.

It will run some tests to see what your are exposig to the net.

Firstly I should say that I recommend ZoneAlarm and that unbinding TCP/IP from File and Printer Sharing will not protect you from Messenger spam and various other attacks.

However, if you do want to do it, here’s how.

  1. Install NetBEUI on all of your PCs.

  2. Double-click My Network Places.

  3. Go to the Advanced menu and select Advanced Settings.

  4. Make sure that Local Area Connection is selected in the top pane.

  5. Uncheck Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) under File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks in the bottom pane. Leave NetBEUI Protocol checked.

  6. Hit OK.
