I've lost my keys?

I hear ya, but OTOH English has no gender, only a few vestiges of case, and simple verb conjugation with not too many irregular verbs. These things tend to even out.

Hmm, I was going from memory of an article I read about the English verb, but I must have misremembered because it seems that English has more irregular verbs than most of the big languages. It’s true about the conjugation (walk/walks/walked/walking) being simple, though.

Take an English regular verb, like “walk”. There are only 2 present tense forms: walk and walks. Try that in Spanish, for instance. I remember once counting that there were 40 conjugations for a regular Spanish verb, what with all the tenses.

And at the rate irregular verbs and nouns are dying out, English could easily become Newspeak within my lifetime.

Well, not my lifetime actually, but someone my age who treats their body less like a pool hall’s lifetime.
