I've noticed something [Michael Jackson]

This limited playlist thing isn’t, er, limited to commercial radio. I have satellite radio and given any station I listen to regularly, can almost guarantee three songs that will be played in an hour. It’s discouraging to have a gazillion stations and not be able to find anything you really want to hear, but on the other hand, if I DO want to hear, say, Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” I can generally find it within a few songs.

Oldies stations cater mainly to people who were teens during the 60’s and Herb Alpert, despite his frequent airplay on Top 40 stations during the decade, appealed mainly to people who, at the time, were over 30.

cough Trooper cough

Does this mean that you at least get to hear Rush on the radio with some frequency? I only hear Rush on the radio once in a blue moon around here, and it’s always Tom Sawyer or Closer to the Heart.

The jokes write themselves, people.

[sub]I’m sorry, but that statement just absolutely cracked me up. My reaction: “Yeah, no kidding!”[/sub]

Frequently, yes. Most often, Tom Sawyer or Closer to the Heart. Repeatedly.

What, your radio stations don’t play “The Spirit of Radio” nonstop?

See, that brings up a great example of what we’re talking about. A very talented Canadian artist, Colin James, released a very good album* with a very good cover of “Into the Mystic” on it, and I think I heard it on the radio once. CanCon is supposed to help level the playing field for Canadian artists so they don’t get drowned in the deluge of music from our neighbours to the south who is ten times larger than we are. I think the radio stations are completely ignoring the spirit of CanCon and just adhering to the letter, which doesn’t make listeners (or probably artists) happy.

*The album is called “Limelight.”

And re-reading my post, I see I have strayed quite a way from the OP. Oops. My bad.
 <----- Sheepish grin

Yeah, the Stranger was the first album i bought for myself, but do you really want to hear Always a Woman? 30 yers later that song still sucks.

Pssst, featherlou–over here.
