I've seen fire and I've seen rain 2 (Part 1)

I can see very well
There’s a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There’s a joke and I know it very well
It’s one of those that I told you long ago
Take my word I’m a madman, don’t you know

So I packed all my clothes and I went on back home
I was standing on the tarmac ready to go
Then I looked all around and I looked all around
And I looked all around and I went crazy

I was down in L.A. town, when our manager said “Jump”
I threw my clothes and my saxophone in a two by four bit trunk
I pushed it to the airport and ran to the ticket line
Man said “Son, you could have saved the run, those airplanes just quit flyin’”

If I can’t leave here, I just might stay
And that L.A. flyway is goin’ to be my home, umm, hum

Oh, big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, big ol’ jet airliner
'Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay

Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb, born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun

This silver bird takes me 'cross the sky
Just one more hour and I’ll be home and dry
‘Cross the ocean, way above the clouds I come stealin’.

Feelin’ tired, but I feel good
Cause I did everything I said I would
I think of you, and I know how you’ll be feelin’.

And a jet could take me far
But I couldn’t escape this feeling
That I don’t know where I’m bound
If I did get away
Am I trapped or just worn down?
I work hard, and I miss my family
But the wheels of industry
Keep on grinding away

This is life on the outside, yeah, yeah, yeah

Well, it’s a bloody Mary morning
Baby left me without warning
Sometime in the night
So I’m flyin’ down to Houston
Forgetting her’s the nature of my flight

As we taxi toward the runway
With the smog and haze
Reminding me of how I feel
Just a country boy who’s learnin’
That the pitfalls of the city
Are extremely real

Well we barely make the airport
For the last plane out
As we taxied down the runway
I could hear the people shout
They said, “don’t come back here Yankee”
But if I ever do
I’ll bring more money
'Cause all she wants to do is dance

My girl wants to party all the time
Party all the time
Party all the time

First we’ll pick Priscilla up and then we’ll stop for Jane
And Mary Ellen needs a ride, we’re goin’ by her place

We’re goin’ to a party, our friends will all be there
I got the directions, it’s across the river somewhere

Oh, my, my, oh, hell yes
Honey, put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song
Take me as I come 'cause I can’t stay long

Last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin’ in and I’m tired of this town again

I phoned up my doctor to see what’s the matter
He said “Come on over”
I said “Do I have to?”
My knees started shakin’, my wrist started achin’
When my doctor said to me

“Oh my my, oh my my
Can you boogie, can you slide?
Oh my my, oh my my
You can boogie, if you try
Oh my my, oh my my
It’s guaranteed to keep you alive”

One night I was layin’ down
I heard mama ‘n papa talkin’
I heard papa tell mama
Let that boy boogie-woogie
It’s in him, and it got to come out
And I felt so good
Went on boogie’n just the same

Can I just say, I absolutely LOVE this thread. It’s snippets of all the songs I love for the last 50 or 60 years. It’s amazing!

Carry on. You wayward son.
There’ll be peace when you are done.

Travelling Eternity Road
What will you find there?
Carrying your heavy load
Searching to find a peace of mind

It’s a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we’re on the way to there
Why not share

And the load
Doesn’t weigh me down at all
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

March for freedom’s highway
March each and every day
March for freedom’s highway
March each and every day
Made up my mind and I won’t turn around
Made up my mind and I won’t turn around

(January) You start the year off fine
(February) You’re my little valentine
(March) I’m gonna march you down the aisle
(April) You’re the Easter Bunny when you smile

Calendar Girl – Neil Sedaka

While strolling thro’ the park one day
In the merry, merry month of May
I was taken by surprise by a pair of roguish eyes
In a moment my poor heart was stole away
