I’ When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin’ love was just for fun
Those days are gone
All by myself, don’t wanna be
All by myself, anymore
All by myself, don’t wanna live
All by myself, anymore
I’ When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin’ love was just for fun
Those days are gone
All by myself, don’t wanna be
All by myself, anymore
All by myself, don’t wanna live
All by myself, anymore
Help! I need somebody
(Help!) Not just anybody
(Help!) You know I need someone
Help!
When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, and I’m not so self-assured
Now I find I changed my mind, and opened up the door
In the future, remember now
The way that we were
So don’t feel down
Wherever you go as time goes round
You’re only human remember now
Help me from the fire, from the liar
Take my hand, I know no way out
Help me from the fire,
On my way down nothing left
I can’t forget about you
Won’t you come see about me?
I’ll be alone, dancing, you know it, baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving everything inside and out and
Love’s strange, so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
Don’t you, forget about me
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t
Don’t you, forget about me
I forgot to remember to forget her
I can’t seem to get her off my mind
I thought I’d never miss her
But I found out somehow
They bring you, they take you
They own you, they make you
Last year today you turn and you say
Here’s a dream for me (but it’s a memory)
You close your eyes, and the moon starts to rise
And you scream for me (do you remember me?)
I calm you, I’m with you
What did they ever give you?
Memories in future tense
Memories don’t make much sense
Memories
Like the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Touch me, it’s so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory of my days in the sun
If you touch me, you’ll understand what happiness is
Look, a new day has begun
Birds flying high, you know how I feel
Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by, you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day
It’s a new life for me, yeah
Bluebird flying high
Tell me what you sing
If you could talk to me
What news would you bring
Of voices in the sky
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arrive
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird, fly
Blackbird, fly
Into the light of the dark, black night
Mister Bluebird’s on my shoulder
It’s the truth, it’s actual
Everything is satisfactual
Everything grows together
Because you’re all one piece.
Your toes grow
As your feet grow
As your legs grow
As your fingers grow
As your hands grow
As your arms grow
As your ears grow
As your nose grows
As the rest of you grows
Because you’re all one piece.
You put your whole self in
You put your whole self out
You put your whole self in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around
That’s what it’s all about!
I’ll do the Hokey Pokey
I’ll do the Hokey Pokey
I’ll do the Hokey Pokey
That’s what it’s all about!
What’s it all about Alfie
Is it just for the moment we live
What’s it all about
When you sort it out, Alfie
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
Arthur, he does as he pleases
All of his life, he’s mastered choice
Deep in his heart, he’s just
He’s just a boy
Living his life one day at a time
He’s showing himself a really good time
Laughing about the way they want him to be
To be an aardvark is not easy, folks,
'Cause all you get to eat is ants
(Delicious!)
And all the other animals make jokes
At your attempts to find romance
(Very funny)
Nobody laughs at hippopotamuses,
Or at fat rhinoceroses,
But an aardvark makes them howl
Because he’s neither fish nor fowl
The monkeys stand for honesty
Giraffes are insincere
And the elephants are kindly but they’re dumb
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum
I’m a lone rhinoceros
there ain’t one hell of a lots of us
left in this world
I stand alone in my concrete cell
where people stare and toss me Coke cans
I guess it’s better than being poached
but I’d give my horn just to see my homeland
A bold hippopotamus was standing one day
On the banks of the cool Shalimar
He gazed at the bottom as he peacefully lay
By the light of the evening star
Away on the hilltop sat combing her hair
His fair hippopotami maid
The hippopotamus was no ignoramus
And sang her this sweet serenade:
“Mud, mud, glorious mud
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
So follow me, follow down to the hollow
And there let us wallow in glorious mud!”
