Strawberry Fields forever…
Low lie the fields Of Athenry,
Where once we watched the small free birds fly.
Our love was on the wing,
We had dreams and songs to sing,
It’s so lonely round the fields of Athenry.
We are young
Heartache to heartache we stand
No promises
No demands
Love is a battlefield
Oh, it’s a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Love him till your arms break
Then he lets you down
I’m taking a ride
With my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
He knows where he’s taking me
Taking me where I want to be
People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He’s a warm hearted person who’ll love me till the end.
People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He’s a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.
My Beautiful Friend
I will pay attention don’t say this is the end
I find it hard to describe you
To point and discover you
Could I tell you once again
O My Beautiful Friend
Life is what happens to you
While you’re busy making other plans
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy.
At times I just don’t know
How you could be anything but beautiful
I think that I was made for you
And you were made for me
Me and you, and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
So happy together
And how is the weather?
Just me and you
Simple and two
Your smile comes to me
And the sadness disappears
For I know soon will be
A time to share together
The two of us going nowhere, spending someone hard earned pay…
We’re on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Taking that ride to nowhere
We’ll take that ride
Ride, captain ride on your mystery ship,
Be amazed at the friends you’ve got there on your trip.
Ride, captain ride on your mystery ship,
Be aware of the things others just might have missed.
On the road again… ( I feel like I am repeating myself)
Well, don’t repeat yourself. Look for something that you can hang a lyric on, and go from there. The rules of the game make no mention of “you have to have memorized the song lyric,” or “you cannot use Google.”
So in response to your “On the road again,” I offer:
I put her out in a town that was so small,
You could throw a rock from end to end.
A dirt road main street, she walked off in bare feet,
It’s a shame I won’t be passin’ through again.
See how I twigged on the word “road,” and found a lyric? The song is “Chevy Van,” by Sammy Johns, and it’s a song I’ve known for years, but I still checked Google for the correct lyrics; and moreover, put enough around the key word that somebody can find something to continue: perhaps “rock,” “town,” “feet,” or “street,” among others.
Hell Marysville ain’t nothing but a wide spot in the road
Some night my heart pounds just like thunder
I don’t know why it don’t explode
Cause everyone in this stinking town has got one foot in the grave
And i’d rather take my chances out in Burma Shave
It’s like thunder–lightning–
The way you love me is frightening,
You better knock, knock on wood!
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in
Oh my darling
Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no…
*now get that earbug out of your head, folks <grinning>
