But a lot more people aren’t familiar enough with the Cure to be able to associate your title/post with the band. I was confused myself – not confused enough to post a rude reply or anything, but confused. You may want to give more of an indication in the subject line where exactly you’re going with the thread…

A) I got the title of the thread right away. I haven’t heard the Cure for years either.
B) This hardly seems like cafe society material, more like MPSIMS. However I see no need to to say “get a life” to her for it. If you have to throw insults, do it in the pit.

I wanted to talk about the Cure - apparently, except for **Morgainelf** no one else does. (Although why they just couldn’t stay out of my thread in the first place, I’ll never know.)

Jeez, y’all, **Bryan** _didn’t get it_, for cryin’ out loud. As **SolGrundy** pointed out, the reference was pretty tenuous even for some who _did_ get it.
So lighten up before you reinforce the prejudices some of us have about fans of The Cure.

It has nothing to do with being a cure fan or not. It deals with the one board rule “dont be a jerk”.
Nuff said.
**Alice in wonderland** - I’m sorry. I wouldn’t mind discussing the cure. I just thought you felt like posting song lyrics which was pretty much all I have seen thus far.
My personal favorite cure album is _boys dont cry_. I really like the garage band kind of sound of the album as opposed to some of their later material which is much more polished.

I personally became a fan in 1985 when I first saw the video for “Close to Me” - I thought it was really fresh - rather unlike the most of the concert type videos that the '80’s hair bands were making and I’ve been a fan ever since. _The Head on the Door_ is still my personal fave - nostalga maybe.
Oh, and I also always had a big crush on Robert. 😃

Any of the first three albums would be my favourite but I’d probably give the slight edge to _Faith_.
I’ve never been a big fan of _Pornography_, which seems to put me in an extremely small minority of Cure fans. It’s not a bad album but I just don’t think the songs are as good.
And Alice, I wanted to smudge Robert’s lipstick for him too 🙂

Personally I think _Pornography_ is their best album, but I’m in a similar position as you as I think _Disintegration_ is vastly over-rated. And don’t get me started on how much I disliked _Bloodflowers_…

Faith and Pornography are definitely two of their best albums… Seventeen Seconds is up there for me, too… (Now, I’m feeling a little disloyal to the other Cure albums… jeez. Love 'em all, I do.)
Oddly enough – I came across my official Cure lyric book today, as I was unpacking my things… Haven’t looked at it in years. Ah, the memories.
My high-school yearbook quote?
“She flies outside this cage/Singing girlmad words/I keep her dark thoughts deep inside/As black as stone/and mad as birds.”
Speaks volumes, dunnit?

when i was in junior high, I was the biggest Cure Fan I knew. room full over posters (including the rare, long sought, Robt. Smith and Betty Boop poster- yay)
then somewhere in highschool I realized that thier melodrama was silly and that a lot of thier stick was lifter from Joy Division, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, and half understood existentialist tracts.
I became a Joy division Fan and left the Cure for the Kids…
Then a few years ago, I saw them live (friend had an extra ticket for 10$ and i had no plans so i went). I had totally forgotten how great they could be,and how, at thier best they were an amazing pop band. They put on a great show, completely sans the faux goth atmospherics I remembered from thier heyday, and more closely resembles a bunch of geezers out having a really good time and plaing a bunch of great hits.
So I went out and bought Galore and Staring at the Sea and rediscovered exactly why they were great. and the funny thing is: it was for totally different reasons that I used ot like them. Now i like the catchy melodies, the great guitar work, the general sense that they were having a lot of fun.
And even more recently i stumbled across the CD Single for Lovesong and remembered that its B-Side: “2Late” is one of the
best. songs. ever.
