She likes to torment me. I can’t have that. She should not have it. She begs to differ. They are the cheapo ones. Not the fancy brand. These are $2 in the store. Still I want one. So… I plead and promise to be good. Give up my nightly snack, which I have come to rely on. Breaking down her defenses with my winning smile and pleasant demeanor(and swear I’ll never fire her). I get one Chocolate covered cherry. To make the whole experience last longer I carefully placed it on top my water bottle and look at it. I smell it a few times. She’s getting antsy. She says “Eat the dang thing!” I said, “I will, I will, give me time!” Unceremoniously, I plopped it in my mouth. Well, I nearly died. The strong flavor shocked me. The cherry burst and I almost choked to death on it. My obit flashed before my eyes “Beck died upon eating a Chocolate covered cherry” Well, as you see. I lived. One deadly chocolate and a bottle of water for a snack. 😑 So Ivy decided she’ll have one. She’s chewing and chewing. I’m watching for her to jump up and choke or something. She has a strange look on her face. She swallowed and said “It didn’t have a cherry inside.” Well that just made my day. I said “Your chocolate covered cherry was not a virgin!” And laughed and laughed at my awful cleverness. She just scoffed and said I was the grossest person she ever met. It was worth it to nearly die just to get to say that to her. 🍒 (I’m horrible, I know) ---

Those sound nummy. I have also had a Cadbury product from Australia called Cherry Ripe. It’s a bar of mash cherry and coconut covered in dark chocolate. ---

I think I bought the same ones at Menards. Yeah, a home improvement center. I shoulda known better. I knew they didn’t have real liquor in them but they didn’t even try. The cherry is surrounded with paste, not liquid. Do do taste good, though. I get European chocolates at one store that have actual brandy, rum or bourbon in them. They are molded like sea shells. They are really great. Oddly enough, a little while ago I was for some strange reason trying to remember the name of that beloved chocolate. I did eventually remember. I still have fond memories of the lovely yellow box from my childhood! The Lil’wrekker bought every one that could have them a bag of Lindor chocolates. I hate them all.😑 (Those with candy) But, Ivy did promise to save me a white chocolate one for when I can have a treat. I hold out little hope. ---

Chocolate-covered cherries are made by coating cherries in a white sugary paste similar to rolled fondant, but with invertase added. Then it’s enrobed in chocolate. After several weeks, the invertase causes the sugar paste to liquify. You likely just got a too-fresh box. Sometimes you’ll get a box where it’s only partially liquified yet. ---

This has brought up a memory. Someone years ago gave my Daddy a box of chocolates. Foil wrapped. They looked like little liquor bottles. I assume bourbon. But could’ve been anything. My brother aged, 13 or so. Ate them all and got really drunk. My memory is of the vomiting. Daddy screaming. And my brother crying. He was surely old enough to understand the ramifications of eating all that. Still he did it. He ain’t changed much. Come to think of it.
