# Jack Klugman - RIP

I just heard this on my news, and didn’t see a thread about it here.
Well, he lived to a ripe old age, and outlived Tony Randall, even though Randall lived more healthy.
I loved everything he did. Not just _The Odd Couple_, but all the great guest star stuff on other shows like _The Untouchables_, _The Twilight Zone_. etc.
Don’t forget _Twelve Angry Men_.
_Quincy_? Meh.
Still, sad to see him go. ☹

Aww, that’s too bad, I really liked him, too. He was just great in The Odd Couple and so much more. Jack Klugman was so likeable, wasn’t he? RIP, sir.

Felix and Oscar are back together again. I was amazed that Klugman outlived Tony Randall by several years.
Quincy was one of my must watch shows in high school. Klugman always delivered solid performances. RIP

So sorry to hear about this. I met him many years ago at Saratoga race track. He owned a race horse at the time named Jaklin Klugman. Really nice man. ☹

It was good as a kind of forensic police-procedural, like _CSI._ Jumped the shark when they started using every episode as a political soapbox, and I say that as one who usually agreed with the message. I really don’t know how much Klugman had to do with that.

I think that’s what I’m remembering. I watched _Quincy_ quite a bit, so I couldn’t have been that “meh” about it at the time.

He was also the original Herbie in the first run of _Gypsy_ on Broadway. And he was responsible for getting his late wife Bret Sommers onto Match Game.

I was watching the hilarious Quincy punk episode last week.
Absolutely loved him in the Odd Couple. A talented actor who seemed so easy to like.

I remember liking _Quincy_ back when it was originally on. I watched some episodes relatively recently, and I didn’t think the show held up all that well on the whole, but Klugman’s performance was solid.

Saw it this morning on BBC. What a shame. I had not heard about him for so long that I really wasn’t aware he was still alive. Another great one gone. RIP. ☹
We just watched _12 Angry Men_ for the first time a few months ago. Wonderful film.

I always liked Jack Klugman and it’s good to see a lot of folks on the SDMB were fans of his too.
I was going to post that he was the last angry man but **Rollo Tomasi** beat me to it.
He always turned in a good performance and my favorite of all was as Jesse Cardiff in the _Twilight Zone_ episode “A Game Of Pool”.

As I mentioned in the Death Pool thread, I just received the Season 4 Quincy DVDs, which came out last Tuesday, and had been watching them and thinking about Jack all weekend, so this is very sad and strange for me.
For those wondering, Jack was most definitely behind the crusader aspect of Quincy. He convinced the network to do the show because he wanted to do something with a message, even comparing Quincy to 60 Minutes. I personally loved the crusader aspects of the show and others of its time, so I’m with Jack, even though I know many disagree.
I also loved him in many other roles, and admired his long friendship with Tony Randall. I’m glad I have all my Quincy DVDs (I had even pre-ordered Season 5 earlier this month, so I still have more to look forward to.)

When I was a youngster I wanted to be either Quincy ME or Kolchak The Night Stalker. Quincy was the original TV ME. Frumpy, cranky, uneven teeth, crusader. A public servant. An inspiration. RIP
