I ate lunch at a local sammich shop. It was a reuban. Very large. I only ate half. On the way over to my treatment my BG wasn’t hopping up like I needed it to. I was over excited because I had picked up a package I was looking forward to. So any carbs I had on board were burning away too fast. We stopped at the Pit stop. Ivy says go in there and get crackers. I go in, I don’t really want crackers, I picked them up any way. Bought 2 jack links meat sticks. Jalapeño flavored. I was tryna open one walking back to the car. Wasn’t happening. I get in the car and am shaky. I’m tryna get my nail in-between to peel it. Couldn’t tear it. I’m adverse to using my teeth to do these things…. “Oh, look, I have this thingy that slices tape or packages open, safely.” ( ‘Cause we all know I’m a klutz. No sharps in a moving vehicle.) The thingy worked. Got my jack link opened and et. BG went to the sweet spot. And my package was great. A cool stripedy sweater. Pink cat socks. Other stuff. One dangerous item…. (Nope not telling 😊 ) Still, Jack Link you dirty b\*\*stards. Don’t be messing with my emergency snacks. Crap is hard enough for me to open. ---

I’m diabetic but not nearly like you are. I tend to think of Jack Links as mostly protein and fat. So a fairly nil-glycemic snack. Yet you wanted one when you needed a near-emergency boost. One of us is confused about the glycemicness of Jack Links. I hope it’s me. ---

Yes. They are tough ones. But if I know how much I need to raise _my_ glucose I can have one. The one I get has 7grams carbs per seving. I needed just a tiny punch. Hey, I eat sugar cubes occasionally. Always shocks people. But it’s an exact amount I can figure out. Remember, my diabetes is not your diabetes. I’ve had a lifetime to figure out these tiny things that work for _me._ So never take my diet restrictions and work arounds as advice for yourself. Generally speaking most packaged snack foods are not for me. ---

Ok. It’s an envelope slitter. Did not know they were good for envelopes. I use them for package opening. And rain sleeves on my papers. It’s squarish plastic thing with a blade down a slanted slot. I like it. ---

Oh yeah, I’ve got one of those. It sits attached to a magnet on my fridge. I use it for its intended purpose, to open envelopes. I never thought to use it for anything else. It works great for envelopes. I’ll keep it in mind if I need to open other types of packaging. ---

Ditto. Handy as hell for envelopes. And packing tape on e.g. Amazon boxes. Not something I’d have thought to use for other purposes. Typically the “spike” isn’t strong enough to penetrate most forms of food, or especially anti-theft, packaging. ---

I get frustrated with packaging even without diabetes, so I can imagine how aggravating that is. That said, the Jack Links beef sticks I eat regularly are extremely easy to peel. What bunches my briefs is the cheese sticks I accompany the beef with. Despite the “peel here” direction on the wrapper, I struggle with virtually every one of them. And yes, I realize how ridiculous it is for me, with my 'frigerator full of food, complaining that a cheese package does not open immediately and effortlessly for me. mmm ---

Pro-tip: never have a Jack links w/ cheese stick if your dog is near. 😁
