Yes, another one of the great actors gone. See ya on the other side, Jack. RIP ☹ ---

I find myself moved - I met the guy, once - spilled a good bit of a pitcher of water on him, actually. He was a real gentleman about it; very kind. ---

_“I crap bigger’n you.”_ His performance in Shane was the quintessential epitome of a BMF. I’m pleased he aws with us so long and will always marvel at his comedic rebirth, given his earlier persona. ---

Sad that he’s gone. RIP I recall very the first time I saw him on the screen, playing Blackie in_Panic In the Streets_. Boy, talk about menace. That film must have been a sleeper, because I never ran across anybody that saw it, or remembered it. Were it not for Jack, I might have forgotten it too. ---

Well, the man ate bacon at every meal. You just can’t _do_ that. ---

> **[Jack Palance, the villain in Shane, dies at 87](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2006/nov/11/film.filmnews)** > > Jack Palance, famed for roles in the westerns Shane and Sudden Fear, and an Oscar-winning self-parody in City Slickers, died yesterday aged 87 at home in California. Well, crud. There goes another good 'un. Wow, how many years had he been 87? Wasn’t he 87 in City Slickers? Twenty years ago? ---

You’d think the guy would have gone on forever. He was always a commanding yet welcome presence on screen. He could laugh at himself too. Once on his famous TV show, he was talking about the Hollywood Walk of Fame and rattling off all the statistics. He saved himself for the closing sequence. “… and where is _my_ star? Directly in front of “Frederick’s of Hollywood” - the naughty lingerie store … believe it … or not !!!” RIP Jack. You will be missed. ---

Moderator’s note: I’ve merged two threads, same subject, same title. **Lissener** , I deleted your post that gave a link to the other thread, since now it would be redundant (in a pretty literal sense.) Thanks, though. [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/jack-palance-dead-at-87/379941.md?page=1)
