FORD, suffering staggering losses, is about to sell off JAGUAR (and possibly LAND ROVER) to the TATA Industrial group of India. This is kind of paradoxical-the former colony now owns a famous symbol of british technology. Are you Brits a bit put out over this? And, should TAT elect to ship Jaguar to India-will you still buy them? Still, a sad day for British motoring! :smack: ---

I dunno… I guess that after seeing MG go off to China, and Rolls and Bentley bought by VW and BMW, the Brits must be numb to it by now. In any case what\* is \* left British-owned? ---

And the aerospace industry has gone to the Italians and the shipping fleet operates out of Liberia or wherever. ---

Triumph Motorcycles is still British owned, although Bonneville engines are now being made in Thailand. ---

[/QUOTE] Not really, I’d never be able to afford one whoever owned it 🙂 Even if I was around to buy a car when the British car industry was crashing and burning, there were enough alternatives on sale to make up for it all. ---

In the US, Jaguar commercials are usually accompanied by a voiceover with a sophisticated, upper-middle-class British accent. I can’t imagine what the ads will sound like when Tata takes over. Imagine, in an Indian accent … “You will kindly do the needful and purchase the esteemed Jaguar car velly velly much please yaar.”
