Woah… Not more than 20 minutes ago I saw the ticker thingy on E! saying he was in the hospital for pneumonia, and was expecting a recovery for a performance next week. In my head, I was thinking “This is it…”. I guess it was :eek: ---

James died, John (so far) has not. It’s not looking good though. I suppose if he does die, it would be nice to die the same day and James Brown. ---

Over in the Deathpool 2007 thread one poster, **Southpaw** , had Augusto Pinochet on his/her 2007 list. Pinochet died, so the first alternate, James Brown, moved up. Now Brown has died. It’s not looking good for Nichelle(Lt. Uhura) Nichols! 😃 ---

I saw James Brown perform live at an outdoor music festival in 1998. He was still dancing, jumping around, hitting the requisite high notes, and all that good stuff. I’ll always treasure the memory of that concert, since I knew I was in the presence of a legend who wouldn’t be with us forever. But he hung on for a long time and had a great run. ---

One of the first records I ever bought was a 45 rpm recording of “Please, Please, Please” by The Famous Flames. That was James Brown’s first. _The bells are ringing They say ‘oh go and see’ The bells are ringing They’re ringing out for me_ From JB’s “The Bells”, circa 1960. John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash, now James Brown… the heroes of my youth are falling like flies. Next somebody on The Dope will be tryin’ to say Elvis is dead… ---

There’s always some big celeb, every year, who dies _just too late_ for the year-end roundups in the magazines. (As a publishing person, it’s just the kinda thing I think of . . . 73’s not a bad age, though, and at least he’d only been sick a few days . . .) ---
