The difference between ground beef and pink slime strikes me as simply one of degree.
Hey, Jamie probably gushes over haggis-only God knows what stuff is in haggis!
"After touring the BPI plant, he described it as “the Willy Wonka of meat factories—lots of dials and whirling stuff, all stainless steel and immaculately clean.”[7] "
Er… perhaps this gentleman is not all that familiar with the Willy Wonka factory? Unless he is and they always have to stop slime productin to drag the damned chocolate river for the bloated corpses of children.
Possibly, just texture.
I do not eat burgers often, but when i do I eat yummy burgers. I buy steaks at my local grocery store and have the butcher grind the meat (no extra charge). I make patties, sometimes add some seasonings/etc and put them on the grill. Cook them just barely medium rare (rare for my gf) and serve on a toasted bun.
He’d prefer a filthy, blood-splattered meat plant?
Yeah, food in its pre-cooked state often looks gross. All of us who have ever actually cooked real food know this already. None of this is news.
Of course not. His statement was a genuine compliment.
Hope he avoids:
Olives
Cashews
Hominy
and a bunch of other food that is processed with evil chemicals
I agree with the “so what” camp.
Five dollars? That better also come with a McBlowjob.
15/115 = ~13%. If they can sell hamburger that’s 15% filler, that would be adding up to about 17.6 lbs of it to every hundred pounds of ground beef.
Jamie Oliver’s Mcnugget failure. (Basically, Jamie gets his ass handed to him by a bunch of grade school children.)
Um, yeah JO is a real piece of work.
More like the Nancy Grace of culinary cuisine.
what a slippery slope. now pink slime, later Soylent Green.
Slimelent Pink?
I think I’ve eaten too much McDonald’s in my life. I am so sick of their beef. Haven’t eaten there in a couple months, I don’t think. All their burgers taste like to me is salt. I’d rather get a nice fresh burrito from Los Comales any day of the week.
But weird processing doesn’t bother me. I’m not a scientist and I can’t test all my food for chemicals before eating it. If the FDA says it’s safe, I have to believe that.
WTF? Is this idiot Jamie saying we should just throw away perfectly good chicken carcasses just because he thinks they’re icky?! I mean, talk about wasting good food! He’s slinging araound this filleted bird expecting those kids to get all grossed out, and there’s nothing to get all grossed out about. Blending in the chicken skin into the puree? The chicken skin is the best part, you dumbass. Putting the results through a sieve? There’s nothing gross about that, it’s just a fine grind.
Hey, hand me that chicken carcass pal. I’ll make soup.
What a wasteful smarmy jag-off.
The trimmings are the beef & the ammonia is a spice!
Yeah that’s the thing, every single piece of food is gross to someone. Some of the forms food takes while being processed are obviously gross to almost everyone, but meh, I just can’t get upset over it. I’ve seen a lot grosser stuff and the reality is it doesn’t bother me as long as it is palatable in its final form.
I don’t know how many supermarkets still do this, but the meat department of the market I worked in while in high school made all their own sausage and hamburger from real cuts of beef/pork that came in from a larger commercial slaughterhouse (we didn’t get whole animals, but large sections of frozen animal that had been processed somewhat by a slaughterhouse.) The process of turning meat into sausage or hamburger is disgusting even when done without any “filler” (sausage by its nature has to have some filler, and hamburger is typically bound with fat which can be seen as sort of a filler as well.)
There’s a reason Bismarck said that people don’t want to see laws or sausage being made, that doesn’t mean we don’t eat sausages.
Mmm… pink slime.
I like to think that’s what’s in the “TUBBB!” on the Simpsons.
I’m not actually much of a fan of ground steak burgers. Years ago when I needed to lose weight I would do that because they are leaner, but to me a good hamburger is 73/27 ground beef. It’s fatty, oozes when cooked, and is fucking delicious.
Ground steak is “okay” but it just isn’t as good as a real burger, at least not to my tastes.
That stuff looks delicious! Put it in a Blizzard cup, sprinkle it with some Snickers chunks and I’m sold!
