I’m sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but has anyone suggested that **Jamie** acts so aggressively because people are reluctant to react violently to a disabled person? I wouldn’t think an able-bodied person could get away with even half the stuff he does.

I think that is definitely true. He would get his ass kicked on a daily basis if he were able-bodied.

That’s very Seinfeld/CurbYE. Nobody wants to be the guy who punched a guy in a wheelchair, even if he deserved it.

Never seen his posts, but I can’t bring myself to talk about someone in a wheelchair who is obviously passionate (maybe that’s not the right word) about his circumstances.

With that kind of attitude, you’re just opening yourself up for a reign of terror wrought by assholes in wheelchairs.

Speaking of assholes in chairs, I thought of another guest star for _Curb Your Wheelchair_: Blaine Sternin! Michael Keaton played this character who was Frasier’s ex wife’s half brother, a charlatan who conned people out of money. Course, he was faking the need for a wheelchair, too.

>
> A patient with massive trauma including a (likely) crushed chest containing a ruptured aorta doesn’t just have that chest cracked open and the blood vessel sutured up like zipping your fly. Just keeping the patient alive takes significant attention and effort, part of which is clamping that major vessel, otherwise the patient can bleed out in minutes. Getting everything else under enough control to allow for repair of the vessel takes some time. In this case it took so much time that the patient’s nervous system suffered trauma from oxygen deprivation. But we have no reason to believe that the time delay was not completely necessary. Had the clamp not been affixed he would be dead instead of paralyzed.

As I already said, IANADorL and we can only go by what Jamie has told us, but I got it from here:

> [@Lucky Shmucks](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/lucky-shmucks/587437/4):
>
> I was in a car accident in 2000 at the age of 20. I ruptured my aorta in the car accident. The accident happened in Flint, Mi. and I was helicoptered to Detroit to a hospital renowned for cardiovascular treatment/emergencies. It was the emergency surgery to repair the ruptured aorta that paralyzed me. To treat the aorta (which supplies blood from your heart to the rest of your body) a clamp was placed on the ruptured section, in order to stop the bleeding and sew it back together. Well while that clamp was on, no blood or oxygen was travelling from the point of the clamp on down (including my spinal cord). The safe time limit for an aortic clamp is 30min. Any time exceeding 30min puts the patient at risk for permanent nerve damage. My clamp was on for 62min.
> **\<snip\>**
> \*An added wrinkle to this story is I was paralyzed due to malpractice. The surgeon who perfomed the aortic surgery had the option of using equipment which would have artificially kept my blood circulating while the clamp was on my aorta. He didn’t use the equipment, suffering from what I call the “God Complex”. If that machine had been used, I, in all likelihood, would not be paralyzed today. But that is not something I hold onto. My life is my life.

Never forget, just because someone is disabled, doesn’t mean they can’t be an asshole too. And just because they happen to be sitting on a set of wheels doesn’t mean you can’t call them out for being an asshole.

He reminds me of Heather Mills, who became one of the most virulently hated people in the UK after divorcing Paul McCartney, despite having only one leg. Listen to some of the comedians from around that time, and it’s jaw-dropping what they got away with. It takes a special kind of douchebag to make a nation collectively go, “Yeah, she deserves to have her handicap mocked.”

> I think that is definitely true. He would get his ass kicked on a daily basis if he were able-bodied.

So there was this woman who’d been disabled since childhood who drank at my old bar who was a capital-S shrew. There’s absolutely nothing good to say about her. She chronically berated the bar staff, her normal speaking voice when someone wasn’t in fawning agreement with her was shrieking, she frequently demanded freebies from the bar since she was a “regular” there, even though she didn’t drink very much, tipped poorly, and only ordered food on $0.25 wing Tuesdays, and would try to get buckets of them to go. If ever someone dared tell her to shut her yap, she’d only shriek louder and go into long speeches about how difficult her life has been. She’s also some teabagging idiot who gets all kinds of disability income and uses all kinds of social services, but I’ll stop with the politics now. Man, she was just awful and hypocritical in ways that don’t need me to invoke politics.

So one day I was talking to a friend about stopping by the bar after work and said, “I hate going when Capital-S Shrew is there. She’s so goddamn obnoxious, I want to punch her in the gunt.” Then I thought what a monster I would like like. Young woman in her twenties pummels the crap out of some 50-something dame in a wheelchair. Then again, all I’d have to do is let the cops talk to her for 5 minutes and they’d all, “You did good, kid” and let me go.

I don’t know who she’d play, but we’ve got to find a role for Jane Lynch as well. Head of one of the gyms where Jamie pulled his stunt?

It’s that weird no man’s land between the gut and the downtown that fat old ladies always have. You know that weird lower belly thing that you _think_ is part of their crotchial area, but you can’t tell? That.

I am wondering how and when his blood was tested for a BAC. When cops/EMTs pull up to a major traffic accident, drawing blood/administering a breathalyzer is not one of the first things they do.

I’m betting the 0.06 came after he was airlifted into the hospital and the trauma team has a few minutes to assess his condition - which could have been an hour or more after the accident. Which means, that while it was 0.06 at the time of the blood draw, it was probably higher at the time of the accident.

FWIW.

Jamie himself admits that his drinking was a contributing factor to the accident, just not the determining factor, according to him anyway. Whether it was 0.06 or 0.08 or 0.01, whether it was legal/illegal/moral/immoral/etc… He at least admits it helped cause the accident that caused him to require the botched surgery that caused his paralysis.

I wonder if he’s still friends with the person that was in the car with him? Or if he has any friends, for that matter. I’m not sure how long I’d be able to stay friends w/ a roided out cripple who berated me every time I tried to hold the door for him.
