It goes to proximity to Trump, it seems. If you never spoke to Barr because you were some undersecretary in a White House closet who talked to Cippilone daily, Barr’s testimony isn’t moving any needles. But Cippilone’s testimony? That shakes things up. ---

I just finished watching the Rocky Horror Webb Picture Show. I wonder if the Committee delayed their hearing today just to avoid conflicting with that? If so, thank you, Committee! Cool to be able to watch both! ---

I was just channel surfing and hit a rerun of Animal House. It occurred to me that the Republican Party has been going for the Delta House defense. _Ladies and Gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few laws or tried to overthrow the government, we did. But you can’t hold a whole political party responsible for the behavior of a few twisted sick individuals. For if you do, shouldn’t we blame the entire political system? And if the whole political system is guilty, isn’t this an indictment of our government in general? I put it to you, isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? You can do whatever you want to us, but I, for one, am not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America_ ---

Moderating: In an ATMB thread where moderation of this thread was discussed, @Cervaise offered the following to help clarify my intent in moderating this thread. I thought it was perfect, so I’m using it verbatim: > In the interest of maintaining a manageable focus in this thread, we will narrow the topic from this point forward to ‘what has happened, who has appeared, what has been said, and what it might mean.’ Speculative subjects should be covered in a separate thread, perhaps under the heading ‘who else should be called, what might they offer, why is the committee not calling them, etc.’ If participants are unable to comply with the directive, I will simply lock this thread in between hearings. I’d much prefer to allow on-topic discussions, but we must have some limiting guideposts and locking the thread is, to me, a better choice than handing out warnings. If you aren’t sure if your post is within the guidelines, it’s probably better to post it in an adjacent thread. Thank you for this information, I hadn’t heard that yet. I will admit, my biggest source of info for these hearings is this thread. I do look at articles and web sites elsewhere, but this is my primary place. Thanks for everyone contributing and those keeping it focused. I get the feeling that these hearings are one of, if not the most critical thing happening to the US right now. It’s helping inform and shape public opinion and may affect the DOJ’s efforts to prosecute people. It will help determine how and even if democracy is done in the country. ---

I’m in the Mountain time zone, so they’ll get going at 11:00–just 20 minutes or so from now. But I’ve got plenty of coffee, and CNN is on. It reminds me of a sports game–there is plenty of speculating in the pre-game show about what we’re going to see today. Well, just as with a football or baseball game, I guess we’ll find out in a little while. ---
