I guess I could give somebody a ride if they’re coming in from Rockland County. I plan to leave around 5:00 p.m. Any Dopers in Rockland or Northern Bergen, I don’t mind picking you up. _ **WARNING** _ I will be leaving earlier in the evening than most people, as I’m used to an early bedtime. Around about 11:00 or 11:30 I start realizing I’m going to be asleep in a half hour, and I usually like to be in bed when it happens. So if you plan on boogie-ing the night away, you may need to find another way to get back home. I know, I’m a real party-pooper. ---

**OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN TO NYC DOPEFEST VI: GATHERING IN GREENWICH VILLAGE** **Two Weeks, Three Days and counting** In a major breaking story today, Biggirl was seen to be practicing not talking too much and actually shut up for a short while. Reactions of disbelief and disappointment were widespread. A doper who preferred to remain unnamed summed up the popular sentiment by explaining: “If Biggirl continues to keep quiet, what fun will the dopefest be? How can she be doing this? She’s ruining my faith in her.” The goat, on the other hand, appeared relieved. In an unconfirmed Associated Press story, Joe\_Cool was reported to be planning the dopefest. Attempts to confirm this story were unavailing due to the extreme indifference of the _Official Countdown_ staff. One reporter, when asked by the editor to check the report, replied: “No way you’re getting me to call that dude. Come on, we all know that he’ll show up, drink heavily, and start loudly expressing his opinions. Besides, it’s a long distance call to Jersey, and you know how you’ve been coming down on us to cut expenses. It just ain’t worth it.” In other attendee news, Green Bean’s husband, the rarely seen Overengineer, has been added to the list. Moe, who is thinking of coming in from Eastern Long Island, has been put down as a possible. On hearing of his indecision, the crowd spontaneously began chanting: “Let’s Go Moe, Let’s Go Moe, Let’s Go Moe . . .” With the possible non-attendence of Nacho4Sara, dopers have been vying to obtain the coveted ‘N’ spot. However, at this time the spot looks unfillable, and there will be a major hole at the party if Nacho4Sara cannot show up. Because no good idea should go unpunished, Green Bean has been anointed as the official nametag maker to the New York dopefest. And finally, the time has come to announce the winner of the _Official Countdown_ ‘Spirit of the Season’ award. Well, **Billdo, Maeglin** and I hijacked another thread to discuss the Dopefest, and it looks as though I’ll be there with a friend of mine (who has posted a couple times as “ **dha** ”. However, we are seeing [The Bobs](http://www.bobs.com), [DaVinci’s Notebook (DVN)](http://www.davincisnotebook.com) and Vance Gilbert at 7:30 at the Bottom Line, and so won’t be available until about 9:00 or so. Whaddaya think - will we still be at Chumley’s, or will we be elsewhere by then? ---

Y’know, I was thinking the same thing, but for real. 🙂 My husband, for example, has been registered since March, but has about 4 posts. So, obviously, no one knows him. But, of course they will accept him with open arms if they know that he is the illustrious Green Bean’s husband. Either that or they’ll spit in his food. I figure what I’ll do is make tags with each person’s username on the top half, and I’ll bring a marker so people can write their real name, or relationship another poster, or whatever they want. And do you really like Billdo’s username? I think it’s awful. ---

Hey all, here’s the deal: I am scheduled to work that Saturday. I don’t know yet about Sunday. Since I’m getting my car all lubed and oiled for my New Year’s trip, and I totally want to go, here are my options: 1. Call out Saturday, and stay the night with someone if I have off Sunday (usually I would know Sunday I have off, but the 7th is my move to a new manager, and a new department, so he might want me there.) 2. Call out Saturday AND Sunday due to the flu. I’ve called out all of twice in my six months at IKEA, I don’t think it would be a problem at all. 3. Recall fond memories of the weekend I tagged along to Myrtle Beach, drove home around 5 am Monday morning, slept for an hour, then headed to Philly for a ten-hour school conference. I did it once, I can so do it again! Whatever happens, I think I will be there. I’m just too excited about meeting you New Yawkas to say no now. Hopefully I will know for sure by this weekend. If I do have to leave Sunday morning (like 5 am) I won’t be as much fun, because a liquored-up Nacho is always much tastier than a sober one. I’ll post back ASAP. Anyone who wants to carpool from Baltimore, lemme know, I am so there with half/half gas money! 🙂 Hope to see you soon! :fingers crossed: 🆒 ---

**OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN TO NYC DOPEFEST VI: DOPERS DESTROY DOWNTOWN** **Two Weeks, Two Days and counting** In today’s news update, dopers everywhere are preparing for the New York City dopefest. Delphica, showing true doper spirit, is commencing her drinking now to get in shape for the dopefest. Next on her training regimen will be loudly relating embarrassing anecdotes about herself, and by the time she gets to the final step of practicing snappy wise-acre reports she’ll be all set for the festivities. Nacho4Sara is getting herself all lubed and oiled for New Years, and is hoping that the slippery goodness will last until at least January 6. She’s also plotting several schemes to escape from the land of the hex-wrench bookshelves and lingonberry juice to make her way up to New York. Lurkernomore is maybenomore, confirming that he will de-lurk at the dopefest. When polled about his request that we be gentle with him at this, his first dopefest, prior NYC dopefest attendees unanimously responded: “of _course_ we will.” Cantrip and dha will be bottoming out with us after the Bottom Line. If Chumleys has thrown us out by the time they’re out of the show, we’ll try to leave word where we have gone (or hopefully have our second stop planned out in time to post it here – _hint, hint, manhattan_). MerrySquirrels and Green Bean have endorsed the idea of adding explanatory tag lines to the name tags of dopers who are there with their significant others. For those at the dopefest who are not in actual relationships, the relationships they fantasize they were in will be listed: Wonko the Sane [sup]but crazy about SwimmingRiddles[/sup] SaxFace [sup]who enjoys “discussing woodwinds” with Ike[/sup] Chance the Gardner [sup]won’t someone please take a chance[/sup] Zebra [sup]thinking impure thoughts about the goat[/sup] Falcon [sup]wondering if she’ll try soulsling’s triple tufted bed[/sup] Joe\_Cool [sup]prepared to hit on anything that moves[/sup] HAVE YOU SEEN THESE MISSING PERSONS An examination of milk cartons around the tri-state area has disclosed that _none_ of the requested dopers has so much as shown up in this thread, much less agreed to come to the dopefest. Readers everywhere are urged to be on the lookout for Alphagene, Eutychus55, Eve, iampunha, quietgirldownthehall, and TubaDiva. If you see these dopers, please urge them to turn themselves in to _Official Countdown_ before anyone gets hurt. Posses will be forming soon, so it would be best for them to appear voluntarily before they are dragged in.
