I agree that is was clearly intentional, but I don’t think that’s actually a pastie she’s wearing, it’s just a nipple ring on steroids. If you look closey, you’ll notice it’s a metal sun-thing, whcih is actually held on by the nipple ring itself. So it covers _most_, but not all of the nipple. ---

Well I for one think it was planned. I mean right when he sings “bet I have you naked by the end of this song.” and riiiip he’s holding it in his hand. C’mon. From the closeup it looks like a piercing. She does have her nipples pierced. She had told her ex to pick the body part he wanted her to pierce, and he chose her nipples sooo… Heh I thought it was funny. I would be mad if MY kid saw it, but since I don’t have one… ---

I fear the outcome of this is going to be something along the lines of “this would never have happened with good, wholesome Country artists”. Next year it will be nothing but Cletus, Clem and Bubba singing through their noses as they slide into every note. I’m alergic to country music. Blah. ---

**awake** , I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t necessarily agree that what we saw was “unacceptable”. I’m sure British dopers have seen a lot more just on page 3 of the Sun, and presumably kids have access to that paper. I don’t have a cite for this, but I’m under the impression that America is the only country that allows every kind of violence in the media, but god forbid anyone should see a breast! And forget about penises. Shootings, stabbings, chokings, gory car crashes: all okay. But show one boobie, and we’re all in the handbasket. :rolleyes: On preview, I’m posting this anyway, even though **Palve** beat me to it. ---

It’s not the breast, it’s the manner in which it was displayed. Children are easily influenced, what sort of message does it send them when a celebrity rips off the clothing of a member of the opposite sex without reprocussion? ---

So Palve, no reason my neices can’t walk around my house topless? I think CPS may have a different view of yours on breasts. Just because they’re not considered sexual on the other side of the world, doesn’t make it the same here. Some of those same people in Africa see nothing wrong with mutilating female genitalia. Should we just adopt all thier customs? ---

It’s just a breast FGS. The only reason why it is such a big deal is because it is taboo and rarely/if ever, shown on American public media. Just like with many “banned” / “restricted” items, they are in such high-demand and cause such a big reaction because they are banned. If people want to stop having such lewd behaviour shown on TV then people should stop making a fuss out of it, and soon thereafter, such behaviour will just be seen as the cheap tricks and immature attention seeking that they are. ---

I was actually _on the field_ as a part of the marching band and didn’t even see it, though many of us did. Bleh. Though, since my parents were watching and taping the haltime show because of me, they must have seen it. :eek: ---

Eeeyiiiiii! That Drudge report link above has a close up of the pasty/piercing doo-hicky and it looks to be the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever seen! Oh, and you can see there are just plain old “snaps” on the costume around the booby area. It was defiiltely a tear-away costume piece. Now whether it was designed specifically for he show or they found the outfit in a fetish shop downtown… In any case, I found outrage over the sight of breasts to be ridiculous too. That said, I don’t think that a guy aggressively ripping the clothes off a woman in front of millions is appropriate in a venue where it’s not expected. Not quite fair to the audience. Example/ I go to see a David Mamet play, I expect some swearing. I take my mom to see Phantom of the Opera, I’m not planning on hearing Christine tell the Phantom to shove that candelabra up his ass. Meh! Don’t really have an emphatic opinion either way. The Jackson/Timberlake thing was crass and tasteless, but I wouldn’t have bothered calling in to complain. ---
